CIMB Makes SecureTAC Authorisation Mandatory For Online Transactions Of RM100 And Above

CIMB has announced that customers are soon required to approve all CIMB Clicks web transactions of RM100 and above using its SecureTAC authorisation feature on the CIMB Clicks app. This is set to take effect starting from 5 December 2022.

In its notice, CIMB explained that this latest update will apply to various transactions, including non-favourite fund transfers, bill payments, and prepaid top-ups. Additionally, it is rolled out as part of the bank’s enhanced security measures.

To note, CIMB’s SecureTAC lets you authorise your transactions with an in-app one-tap approval method, as opposed to manually keying in a six-digit SMS TAC sent via a third-party telco service provider. It is also the bank’s preferred alternative – said to be more secure – as it begins to move away from SMS OTPs following a directive by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for all banks to beef up their online security systems with five additional safeguards.

As such, all CIMB Clicks users are reminded to turn on notifications in Settings to ensure that they can receive their SecureTAC alerts immediately when performing their transactions. “If your notifications are turned on, you can tap the notification to go straight to your app. If you don’t, you will need to open the app [CIMB Clicks], swipe left on homescreen, and select ‘SecureTap’. Tap on ‘Approve’ to proceed with the transaction,” the bank explained.

CIMB had also recently implemented another security measure that allows customers to register only one device for the authentication of banking activities via SecureTAC on their CIMB Clicks app. Previously, customers were allowed to activate SecureTAC on a maximum of two devices, and log in to a maximum of two devices with their CIMB Clicks ID. This measure was also introduced in accordance with BNM’s directive.

You can download the CIMB Clicks app from Google Play, the App Store, and Huawei AppGallery.
