More Information

What Is Allianz Motorcycle Plus?

Motorcycle insurance in Malaysia is mandatory, but most basic plans stop at legal compliance. Allianz Motorcycle Plus goes further by including coverage for the pillion rider as a standard feature and no add-on required.

The plan is underwritten by Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad, regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia under the Financial Services Act 2013. It comes in three cover tiers: Comprehensive, Third Party Fire & Theft, and Third Party Only. All three are eligible for the Rahmah Insurance Initiative flood relief benefit.

What Does Each Cover Type Include?

The Comprehensive plan is the most extensive. It covers accidental damage, fire, and theft to your own motorcycle, plus unlimited third party bodily injury liability and up to RM3 million in third party property damage per incident. For motorcycles 250cc or 12,000 watts and below, it also includes special perils cover (flood, typhoon, landslide, and similar events) at no extra cost.

Third Party Fire & Theft covers loss or damage from fire and theft to your own motorcycle, plus the same third party liabilities. Accidental damage to your own vehicle is not included, and special perils are excluded.

Third Party Only covers liabilities to other parties such as bodily injury, death, and property damage but nothing for your own motorcycle.

Do note that the road accident benefit and hospital income apply under Comprehensive and Third Party plans, but not under Third Party Fire & Theft.

What Free Benefits Do Riders and Pillions Get?

For motorcycles 250cc or 12,000 watts and below, Allianz includes two benefits at no additional premium — provided the policyholder is an individual, not a company.

The road accident benefit pays RM10,000 each to the rider and pillion in the event of death or permanent disablement from a road accident. The hospital income benefit pays RM100 per day for up to 60 days (RM6,000 maximum) if either the rider or pillion is hospitalised after an accident.

These benefits apply under the Comprehensive and Third Party plans. They do not apply under Third Party Fire & Theft.

What Is the RM1,000 Flood Relief Benefit?

Under the Rahmah Insurance Initiative, Allianz Motorcycle Plus policyholders on either the Comprehensive or Third Party plan receive a complimentary one-time RM1,000 payout if their motorcycle is damaged in a flood during the policy period.

To claim this, you need to notify Allianz within 7 days of the flood incident or within 30 days if you were hospitalised as a result. Supporting documents required are a police report on the flood, original repair invoices, and photographs of the motorcycle before and after repair.

This is a one-time benefit per policy period. Once claimed, it ceases immediately.

What Roadside Assistance Do Comprehensive Policyholders Get?

Comprehensive policyholders with motorcycles below 250cc get complimentary 24-hour roadside breakdown assistance through Allianz Road Rangers. The service covers breakdown towing up to 50km (round trip), petrol delivery, flat tyre assistance, and battery jumpstart or delivery.

There is a limit of 3 service call-outs per policy period. For towing beyond 50km, the additional cost is RM1.30 per km — toll charges are not included and are borne by the rider.

To use the service, call 1 300 22 1188 or 15 500. The service must be arranged directly through Allianz or their appointed provider; services organised independently without pre-approval are not covered.

Separately, the policy itself covers up to RM50 in towing costs to move your motorcycle to the nearest approved repairer or safe storage.

How Do Excess, Betterment, and Settlement Work?

The compulsory excess applies to each approved claim under Section A (own vehicle damage). The exact amount is stated in your individual policy Schedule. The excess does not apply to claims for fire, explosion, lightning, burglary, theft, third party property damage, or bodily injury.

If your motorcycle is five years old or above and new original parts are used in the repair, a betterment charge applies. The rate starts at 15% for motorcycles aged 5 years and increases by 5% per year, reaching 40% for motorcycles aged 10 years and above. Motorcycles under 5 years old pay no betterment.

Claims are settled on a market value basis, not agreed value. For total loss or theft, Allianz pays the market value at the time of loss or the sum insured as stated in the Schedule — whichever is lower. If your sum insured is more than 10% below the motorcycle's market value at the time of loss, any payout will be proportionally reduced. Insuring your motorcycle at its current market value from the start avoids this outcome.

What Optional Add-Ons Are Available?

Legal Liability to Pillion is the most commonly purchased add-on, at RM15. It covers your liability if your pillion rider is killed or injured in an accident. It is not included in the basic policy, and it is also a legal requirement if you ride into Singapore.

Other available endorsements include cover for strike, riot, and civil commotion; a separate accessory cover for parts fixed to your motorcycle; extension of cover to the Kingdom of Thailand; and ferry transit extension between Sabah and Labuan.

How Do You Make a Claim?

Report the accident to the police within 24 hours — this is required by law. Notify Allianz as soon as possible after any incident. Send your motorcycle to an Allianz-approved panel repairer and do not authorise any repairs without Allianz's prior written consent, as doing so may result in the claim being declined.

Submit your claim through the MyAllianz App, the MyAllianz Portal, or by calling 1 300 22 5542. Pass all third party letters, writs, or summons to Allianz immediately and do not negotiate or settle these independently.

Can You Cancel Your Policy and Get a Refund?

Yes. You can cancel at any time by giving written notice to Allianz. If you have been continuously insured with Allianz for more than 12 months, the refund is calculated on a pro-rata basis. Under 12 months, Allianz applies customary short period rates instead. No refund is given if a claim has already been made during the current policy period, and any minimum premium paid is non-refundable regardless of when you cancel.

Are the Benefits Protected by PIDM?

Yes. Benefits payable under eligible Allianz Motorcycle Plus policies are protected by Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) up to applicable limits. Visit www.pidm.gov.my or refer to PIDM's TIPS Brochure for details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the pillion rider need to be named in the policy to be covered?

No, the pillion does not need to be pre-registered. The road accident and hospital income benefits apply to any pillion rider at the time of the incident. The benefit is a standard inclusion for motorcycles 250cc and below, with no additional premium.

Does Comprehensive cover include flood damage automatically?

Yes, for motorcycles 250cc and below, special perils cover (which includes floods, typhoons, and landslides) is included as standard under the Comprehensive plan. Motorcycles above 250cc need to purchase this as a separate add-on. On top of this, all eligible Comprehensive and Third Party policyholders also receive the RM1,000 flood relief benefit under the Rahmah Insurance Initiative.

What is the difference between single rider and all-riders cover?

Single rider cover names one specific person in the policy. If your motorcycle is ridden by anyone else and an accident happens, the claim will not be covered. All-riders cover extends to any person with a valid licence and your permission. Most policyholders choose all-riders cover, given how common it is in Malaysia to lend a motorcycle to a family member or friend.

Do I need Legal Liability to Pillion if I am riding into Singapore?

Yes. Singapore law requires motorcyclists to have pillion liability cover. The basic Allianz Motorcycle Plus policy does not include this, so you will need to purchase Endorsement 108 (Legal Liability to Pillion) at RM15 before crossing into Singapore.

What happens if I cannot send my motorcycle to an Allianz panel workshop?

If there is no panel workshop nearby, Allianz may arrange towing to the nearest approved repairer at no cost to you, or allow repairs at a nearby JPJ-registered workshop at their discretion. You must not authorise repairs independently without Allianz's written approval — claims may be declined if this condition is not followed.

What documents do I need to claim the RM1,000 flood relief benefit?

You will need a police report on the flood incident, original repair invoices and receipts, and photographs of your motorcycle before and after repair. Notify Allianz within 7 days of the flood (or within 30 days if hospitalised). This benefit can only be claimed once per policy period.

Will I get a refund if I cancel my policy early?

Yes, subject to conditions. If you have been continuously insured with Allianz for more than 12 months, the refund is pro-rata. Below 12 months, short period rates apply. No refund is given if a claim has already been made, and minimum premiums are non-refundable regardless.
