What is Takaful myMotor Motorcycle?
For many Malaysians, a motorcycle is more than just a vehicle - it is a primary mode of transport to work, school, and daily errands. Takaful myMotor Motorcycle is a comprehensive Shariah-compliant motor takaful certificate from Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Am Berhad that covers your motorcycle against loss or damage from accident, fire, or theft, as well as third-party liability for death, bodily injury, or property damage arising from its use.
The product is open to private motorcycles aged less than 16 years with a cubic capacity not exceeding 225cc.
The contract is structured under five Shariah principles: Tabarru' (you donate a portion of your contribution to the General Takaful Fund to help fellow participants), Wakalah (Takaful Malaysia manages the fund as your agent for a Wakalah fee), Hibah (benefits and any distributable surplus from the fund are paid out as a gift), Ju'alah (Takaful Malaysia receives a performance incentive from the distributable surplus), and Qard (Takaful Malaysia provides an interest-free loan to the fund if it falls into deficit).
The Wakalah fee is set at 30% of the total takaful contribution, which covers management expenses (20%) and agent commission (10%).
What Does It Cover?
Under the comprehensive certificate, your motorcycle is covered for accidental collision or overturning (including from mechanical breakdown or wear and tear), fire, explosion or lightning, burglary and theft, malicious acts, and damage sustained while in transit by road, rail, inland waterway, or ferry.
Third-party liability covers death or bodily injury to any person and damage to any third-party property arising from the use of your motorcycle on a road.
What is not covered under the base certificate:
- Your own death or bodily injury from a riding accident (available as Bike PA Plus add-on)
- Loss of use of your motorcycle
- Flood, storm, landslide, and other convulsions of nature (available via Special Perils endorsement)
- Theft of accessories unless your motorcycle is stolen at the same time
- Your liability to any pillion rider unless specifically extended (Endorsement C108)
- Mechanical, electrical, or electronic breakdown not arising from an accident
- Tyre damage unless other parts of your motorcycle are also damaged
- Consequential losses, depreciation, wear and tear
Single Rider or All-Riders Cover
Before purchasing, you will need to decide between two rider cover options. Single Rider cover only protects the participant named in the certificate, while All-Riders cover extends protection to any person who has your permission to ride the motorcycle, holds a valid licence for the relevant class, and complies with all certificate terms. Given how common it is in Malaysia to lend motorcycles to family members and friends, most participants opt for All-Riders cover.
How Claims Are Settled
If your motorcycle is damaged and economically repairable, Takaful Malaysia will arrange repairs at an approved panel workshop, pay a cash equivalent, or reinstate/replace your motorcycle with one of the same make, model, age, and condition.
If your motorcycle is declared Beyond Economic Repair (BER) or stolen and not recovered, you receive the lower of the market value at the time of loss, or the sum covered stated in your schedule. Once this payment is made, the certificate terminates automatically.
Under-coverage: If your sum covered falls short of the actual market value by more than 10%, any claim payout is reduced proportionally. For instance, if your motorcycle's market value is RM10,000 but you covered it for RM8,000, and the assessed loss is RM3,000, Takaful Malaysia pays RM2,400, and you bear RM600. Always cover your motorcycle at its current market value, with reference to the ISM Automotive Business Intelligence (ABI) System.
Betterment: When new original parts are used, and your motorcycle ends up in better condition than before the damage, you contribute toward betterment costs based on age. Motorcycles under five years old attract no betterment charge. From year five, the rate starts at 15% and increases by 5 percentage points each year, reaching 40% for motorcycles aged ten years and above.
Excess: The excess amount is stated in your Certificate Schedule and applies to each approved claim under Section A. It does not apply to fire, theft, third-party property damage, or bodily injury claims.
No-Claim Discount and Cashback
For each claim-free year of coverage, you earn a No-Claim Discount (NCD) on your next renewal contribution. You can check your current NCD entitlement at https://www.mycarinfo.com.my/ncdcheck/online.
Separate from NCD, Takaful myMotor Motorcycle also offers a cashback benefit for participants who do not make any claims during the period of Takaful. The cashback is processed 60 days after your certificate expires and credited to your bank account via e-Payment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cashback benefit, and when is it paid?
If you make no claims during your certificate period, you are entitled to a cashback payment. It is processed 60 days after your certificate expires and credited to your bank account via e-Payment. This is separate from your NCD and applies as a direct cash return rather than a contribution discount.
What is the difference between Single Rider and All-Riders cover?
Single Rider cover only protects the person named in the certificate - typically the motorcycle owner. If someone else rides your motorcycle and gets into an accident, the claim may be rejected. All-Riders cover extends protection to any person who has your permission to ride, holds a valid licence, and complies with certificate terms. For most participants, All-Riders coverage is the safer choice.
Is flood damage covered?
Flood, storm, landslide, and other acts of nature are excluded from the base certificate. To cover these risks, you need to add the Inclusion of Special Perils endorsement for an additional contribution.
Does the Tele Bantuan towing benefit apply every time I need it?
For motorcycles, Tele Bantuan towing and roadside assistance benefits are only available for the first use during your Period of Takaful. For any subsequent breakdown or accident requiring assistance, the full cost is borne by you. This is different from Takaful Malaysia's private car comprehensive participants, where multiple uses may be available.
Can my pillion rider claim if they are injured in an accident?
Under the base certificate, your liability to a pillion rider is not covered. To cover this, you need to add Endorsement C108 (Legal Liability to Pillion). This endorsement is also required by Singapore law if you intend to ride your motorcycle into Singapore.
What happens if my motorcycle is declared Beyond Economic Repair?
If Takaful Malaysia determines it is not safe or economical to repair your motorcycle, it is declared Beyond Economic Repair (BER). The payout is the lower of the market value at the time of loss or your sum covered, and the certificate terminates automatically on payment. Takaful Malaysia may also offer to replace your motorcycle with one of the same make, model, age, and condition.
How does betterment work?
When new original parts are used in repairs, and your motorcycle ends up in better condition than before the damage, you contribute toward the cost of those new parts based on your motorcycle's age. Motorcycles under five years old have no betterment charge. At five years, you pay 15% of the relevant parts cost, rising by 5 percentage points each year to 40% for motorcycles aged ten years and above.
Is this product protected under PIDM?
Yes. The benefits payable under eligible certificates are protected by Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) up to limits under the Takaful and Insurance Benefits Protection System (TIPS). Contact Takaful Malaysia or visit www.pidm.gov.my for details.
