Did you know that there are about 67,552 cyber-crime cases have been reported from 2017 until 2021? Because of these cases, our local consumers suffered losses of around RM2.23 billion, according to NST.
From these numbers alone, it’s high time that you take preventive measures against being the victim of financial fraud, and one of them is taking control of your card security.
The safest credit card you’ll ever need!
The Alliance Bank Visa Virtual Credit Card is the first digital credit card in the Malaysian market packed with extended security features to help you combat the uncertainty of being exposed to cybercrime.
- Dynamic Card Number (DCN)
The DCN is a feature that protects your real credit card number and it enables you as a cardholder to randomly generate 16-digit card numbers whenever you want to make any transactions be they short-term or recurring payments.
For short-term transactions i.e. you’re making a one-off payment to buy a brand-new couch, for example, you can simply generate a new 16-digit card number to make that particular purchase. Once the payment is completed, the said card number will be automatically cancelled. Or, if you change your mind about the couch and there’s no transaction performed within 30 minutes, the same card number will be automatically cancelled as well for security purposes.
To top it off, you can also set different DCNs for different recurring payments that you have such as bills or payments for subscription services like Netflix. You can even differentiate each recurring payment with its transaction limit and personalise them with logos for easier identification.
Note: For additional clarification, the RM25 SST is imposed once every year on the Principal Alliance Virtual Credit Card. This means you are only charged one SST for this card, regardless of how many virtual cards you create.
- Freeze, unfreeze or delete your Alliance Virtual Card
Yes, you read it right the first time. Since the Alliance Virtual Card is housed within the allianceonline mobile banking app, you have the flexibility to freeze your card should you discover any suspicious activities from your account at any time. If you want to use your virtual card again, just simply unfreeze it from the app itself.
Collect no-expiry-date Timeless Bonus Points
Although you won’t get any physical card when you sign up for the Alliance Virtual Credit Card, you still can reap the benefits similar to the Alliance Bank Visa Platinum card – the Timeless Bonus Points (TBP).
You’ll get 8x Timeless Bonus Points for every RM1 spent on online purchases and reloading your favourite e-wallet (both are capped at RM3,000 per statement cycle). Suppose you exceed the capping amount, you'll earn 1x TBP instead for these categories.
Besides that, enjoy earning 1x TBP for all other transactions which includes the Instalment Payment Plan, Flexi Payment Plan, JomPay and FPX transactions.
- Online purchases and e-wallet reloads: 8x TBP per RM1 spent, capped at RM3,000 per statement cycle
- All other transactions (including Instalment Plan, Flexi Payment Plan, JomPay and FPX transactions): 1x TBP per RM1 spent
No annual fee, ever!
You don’t have to pay any annual fees for this Alliance Bank Visa Virtual Credit Card. It’s free for life without any conditions! However, do note that you still need to pay the annual Sales Service Tax (SST) of RM25 on your Principal Alliance Virtual Credit Card. Remember, as we mentioned above, you are only charged one SST, regardless of how many virtual cards you create.
Can I convert my existing Alliance Visa Platinum to Alliance Visa Virtual?
Unfortunately, you cannot since they are two different credit cards. If you’re keen to enjoy the benefits of the Alliance Visa Virtual card, you will need to apply for it separately via the allianceonline mobile banking app.
What should I do if I cannot use my Alliance Bank Visa Virtual Credit Card to pay via the DuitNow QR code?
It is a little-known fact that for payments, DuitNow QR supports both e-wallet and credit card transactions. However, it is up to the merchants to enable payment acceptance for credit cards via DuitNow QR. Therefore, you may not be able to use your Alliance Bank Visa Virtual Credit Card to scan and pay with a DuitNow QR code at every shop you visit.
Should this happen, the following options are available to you:
Option 1: Use Your Alliance Bank Visa VCC to reload your preferred e-wallet apps and pay via DuitNow QR
- Set up a new "recurring" Dynamic Card Number (DCN) to reload your preferred e-wallet, such as Touch 'n Go eWallet. For easier reference, select the e-wallet's logo for this DCN as a convenient reminder for future use.
- Use the newly generated DCN to reload your e-wallet. Remember, you can always set a maximum limit for both transaction value and the number of transactions for this specific DCN to increase its security.
- Now, you can simply scan and pay via the DuitNow QR code using your preferred e-wallet while still enjoying the benefits of the Alliance Bank Visa VCC!
Option 2: Add Your Alliance Bank Visa VCC To Google Pay Or Apple Pay (Coming Soon)
- Set up a new "recurring" Dynamic Card Number (DCN) for either Google Pay (if you're using an Android smartphone) or Apple Pay (if you're using an iPhone). You may set a maximum limit for both transaction value and the number of transactions for this specific DCN to increase its security.
- For easier reference, you may assign the Google Pay or Apple Pay logo for this DCN as a convenient reminder for future use.
- Add this DCN to Google Pay (step-by-step guide available here) or Apple Pay (step-by-step guide available here).
- Now, you can simply pay with your Alliance Bank Visa VCC from your smartphone at any credit card terminal that accepts contactless payments.
