Smart Payment Flexibility with OCBC Cashflo MasterCard
Recognized as the Best Credit Card for Instalments, the OCBC Cashflo MasterCard automatically converts purchases above RM500 into interest-free instalments without any application or approval process. Spend RM500 to RM1,000, and it is split into 3 monthly payments. Spend above RM1,000, and it becomes 6 monthly payments.
This works well if you make regular purchases in this range and want predictable monthly payments without manually setting up instalment plans.
How the Auto-Instalment Payment Plan Works
Every purchase between RM500 and RM1,000 on your OCBC Cashflo MasterCard automatically converts to a 3-month instalment. Purchases above RM1,000 become 6-month instalments. This happens immediately after the transaction posts to your account.
Example: You buy a laptop for RM2,400 on 10 February. Your March statement will show the first instalment of RM400, followed by RM400 in April, May, June, July, and August.
| Purchase Amount | Monthly Instalment (3 months) | Monthly Instalment (6 months) |
| Below RM500 | Not converted | Not covered |
| RM600 | RM200 x 3 months | - |
| RM1,500 | - | RM250 x 6 months |
Purchases below RM500 are billed normally on your next statement without conversion.
Understanding the 0% Interest Condition
The Auto-IPP carries 0% interest, but this only applies when you pay your full monthly statement balance by the due date.
Your statement shows three things each month:
To keep the 0% interest, you must pay the full RM700. If you only pay the minimum amount due (usually RM50 or 5%), finance charges apply to your entire outstanding balance, including the Auto-IPP amount. The interest rate reverts to 15% p.a. on everything.
This differs from some other instalment plans where the instalment itself remains interest-free regardless of your other payments.
What Qualifies for Auto-Instalment
Most retail purchases qualify for Auto-IPP if they're RM500 or above:
Transactions That Don't Qualify
Quite a few transaction types are excluded from Auto-IPP. These will be billed normally:
Financial products:
Fees and charges:
Specific merchant categories:
Problem transactions:
If your RM600 purchase doesn't convert automatically, it's likely in one of these excluded categories.
Annual Fees and Charges
The OCBC Cashflo MasterCard charges RM188 annually for the principal card and RM68 for supplementary cards. You'll also pay RM25 Sales and Service Tax when the card is activated and on each anniversary date.
OCBC occasionally offers first-year fee waivers for new customers. Check directly with OCBC when applying to see if any promotions are available, as these change regularly.
The annual fee works out to about RM15.60 per month for the principal card. Whether this represents good value depends on how often you use the Auto-IPP feature and whether the automatic instalments save you from paying interest elsewhere.
