Review

Standard Chartered brings good news to frequent flyers with its all-new Standard Chartered Journey Credit Card, previously known as the WorldMiles Mastercard.

Transform how you travel with a card that lets you earn air miles faster than ever while offering you comfort between trips, along with exclusive travel privileges and merchant offers across the region.

Standard Chartered Journey Credit Card – air miles that are easy to earn

Once you have the card, you can earn 1 Miles Point with every RM1 spent on dining, travel (which includes airlines, hotels and online travel agencies such as Agoda, Booking.com and Expedia) and overseas retail transactions, including 1 Miles Point with every RM5 spent in all other eligible local transactions. Here are the key terms and conditions for Miles Point:

  • Points earned can be redeemed for air miles from multiple frequent flyer programs (to be announced soon by Standard Chartered or you can find out on SC's online banking website).
  • Two (2) Miles Points can be used to redeem one (1) air mile.
  • Redemption of air miles can only be made in multiples of 1,000 points.
  • Miles Points are valid for 3 years from the month it is credited into your account.

However, please note that there are several categories of transactions that are being excluded from earning the Miles Points. They are as follows.

  • Government-related transactions
  • Cash withdrawals
  • Utilities (telco or cable TV)
  • E-wallet transactions
  • Special events (caterings, funerals, studio rentals or florists)

Special travel privileges

In addition to Miles Points, the Standard Chartered Journey Credit Card also features special privileges to cater to the needs of frequent travellers.

  • Free access to selected Plaza Premium Lounges in KLIA and KLIA2

As a principal cardholder, you can enjoy unlimited complimentary access to participating Plaza Premium Lounges in KLIA and KLIA2 worth RM168 per entry, given that you have a valid international boarding pass.

  • Cashback on airport transfers via Grab

This Standard Chartered credit card offers up to RM65 cashback on your Grab rides to and from any airport in Malaysia, as long as you, as the principal cardholder, spend a minimum of RM2,500 in travel expenses (airlines, hotels and online travel agencies) in the past 90 days before your Grab ride transaction. The cashback is only applicable for the first ride of each month and will be credited to your Journey card account within 60 days after the ride.

  • Complimentary travel medical coverage

You don't need to sign up for separate travel insurance any longer since the Standard Chartered Journey credit card comes with complimentary travel insurance of up to USD100,000, which also includes medical coverage for COVID-19, provided that you have an international boarding pass. Simply sign up to enjoy this privilege.

Annual fee of Standard Chartered Journey Credit Card

The Journey card has an annual fee of RM600 – free for the first year for new customers and also will be waived when you spend a minimum of RM60,000 per year on the subsequent years.

The annual fee is referred to as the Miles Membership Fee at the time of writing. All supplementary cards are free.

What happens if I do not make a repayment on time?

There will be a finance charge incurred on the outstanding credit card balance that is overdue. This finance charge, ranging from a minimum of 15% p.a. to a maximum of 18% p.a., is tiered based on the user's repayment behaviour in the last 12 months.

See the table below for reference:

Annual RatesConditions
15% p.a.Cardmembers who promptly settle their Minimum Monthly Payment due for 12 consecutive months.
17% p.a.Cardmembers who promptly settle their Minimum Monthly Payment due for 10/11 months in the last 12 consecutive months.
18% p.a.Cardmembers who make 9 months or less prompt payments of their Minimum Monthly Payment in the last 12 consecutive months.

For example, if within 12 months from the card approval date you have missed 3 credit card repayments consecutively, an 18% p.a. finance charge will be levied on the credit card outstanding balance.

After you have managed to consistently repay your credit card outstanding balance promptly and in full for 12 consecutive months, the finance charge will default to the minimum.
