What can I do with this basic current account?
Opening a Basic Current Account-i with Bank Islam can do you a lot of favors in terms of flexible money management. Like a savings account, your deposit will be kept in safe custody under a Shariah contract of Wadiah (safekeeping).
Unlike a savings account, you get to enjoy the flexibility of writing cheque when making payments. Cheque writing is the core feature of a current account and is it useful for paying goods or services of large currency value.
What's more, you can link your current account to your Bank Islam internet banking account to simplify your banking services needs, such as bill payment, fund transfer, account enquiries and many more - at your fingertips!
Do I get a cheque book and ATM card?
The best part about this basic current account is that, not only you can pay for your purchases with cash withdrawn from your account, but also from the option of cheque writing or ATM/debit card swiping.
For extra convenience, an ATM/debit card can be very handy when you're running out of cash. However, the issuance of an ATM/debit card is subject to a fee. A cheque book will be issued to you for free of charge; you only need to pay for the Stamp Duty fee of RM0.15 per leaf.
Unfortunately, the overdraft facility is not available for this basic current account.
Tell me how can I save on fees and charges?
There are many ways you can try to minimize these - sometimes unnecessary - costs. First, you can plan your transactions ahead of time as every month you are entitled to complimentary services such as:
- Free 6 over-the-counter visits
- Free 8 ATM cash withdrawals
- First 2 Interbank GIRO at RM0.50 each
But, if you the kind of a person who frequently withdraws cash, you can opt to pay for a debit card annual fee to enjoy unlimited cash withdrawal per month.
Most importantly, if you want to escape a half-yearly service fee of RM10, make sure your average account balance stays above RM1,000 at all times - in other words, deposit more and withdraw less.
