What is the Atome Card?
The Atome Card is a Visa prepaid card with built-in Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) functionality, issued by Fass Payment Solutions Sdn Bhd (Fasspay), a Bank Negara Malaysia-licensed e-money and Visa prepaid card issuer, in partnership with Atome.
Unlike a standard debit card, the Atome Card offers a spending limit determined by Atome and allows you to shop now and pay later. You can choose to pay in full within up to 40-days, or convert your monthly bill into instalment plans of 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. All instalment plans are Shariah-compliant.
Once your application is approved, you get a virtual Atome Card instantly for online purchases. You can also request a physical card (Midnight Black, Blush Pink, or Pearlescent Silver) for in-store use. Your balance, bills, repayment schedules, and spending history are all in the Atome app.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is the Atome Card the same as a credit card?
No. The Atome Card is a Visa prepaid card, not a credit card. It does not extend a revolving credit line or require a credit check. Your spending limit is set by Atome based on your in-app usage and repayment behaviour, and reviewed periodically.
Can I use the Atome Card overseas?
No. You can’t use the Atome Card overseas, whether online or in-store. This feature is still in development, so it’s best to check the app for updates before you travel.
What is the spending limit on the Atome Card?
Your available spending limit is set dynamically based on your Atome spending and repayment history, and reviewed periodically. New users typically start with a lower limit that grows as their repayment track record strengthens. The exact limit is shown in the Atome app.
Can I withdraw cash from an ATM with the Atome Card?
No. ATM cash withdrawals and bank transfers are not supported. The Atome Card is designed for purchases at Visa-enabled merchants online and in-store.
How do I get the physical Atome Card?
Once your application is approved and your virtual card is activated, you can request a physical card through the Atome app. It will be mailed to your registered address. The physical card supports tap-to-pay and chip transactions at local Visa-enabled merchants.
What happens if I miss an Atome Card payment?
If you miss an Atome Card payment, a late payment fee may apply, and your spending limit could be temporarily reduced until the balance is cleared. If it happens, try to settle it as soon as possible. To help avoid this in the future, you can link your bank card and enable autopay.
Who Can Apply for the Atome Card in Malaysia?
The Atome Card is open to Malaysian citizens and long-term residents who meet these requirements:
- Aged 18 and above
- Malaysian citizen with a valid MyKad
There is no minimum income requirement. Atome assesses eligibility automatically based on your spending and repayment behaviour within the app, not a fixed salary threshold. This makes the Atome Card accessible to working adults, students, freelancers, and gig workers who may not qualify for a conventional credit card.
What Documents Do I Need to Apply for the Atome Card?
The Atome Card application is done entirely within the Atome app. No payslips, bank statements, or income documents are required. You will need:
- A valid Malaysian IC (MyKad)
- A selfie for identity verification
Atome uses your in-app order history and repayment track record to determine your spending limit. The whole process takes minutes.
