What is the HSBC Advance Everyday Global Visa Debit Card?

It’s a PIN-enabled debit card for your everyday banking needs, both locally and internationally. It's linked to the HSBC Everyday Global Account, a multi-currency account that holds Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) and 10 foreign currencies.

This card works as both your ATM card and payment card, letting you pay for goods and services globally through the Visa or MyDebit networks. You will also get real-time transaction alerts to help track your spending.

What benefits do I get with this debit card?

Multi-Currency Convenience: Hold and spend in Ringgit Malaysia and 10 other major currencies using one card. The supported foreign currencies are:

  • Australian Dollar (AUD)
  • Canadian Dollar (CAD)
  • Euro (EUR)
  • Pound Sterling (GBP)
  • Hong Kong Dollar (HKD)
  • Japanese Yen (JPY)
  • New Zealand Dollar (NZD)
  • Saudi Riyal (SAR)
  • Singapore Dollar (SGD)
  • United States Dollar (USD)

No Foreign Exchange Fees (on Supported Currencies): When you spend overseas or online in one of the 10 supported foreign currencies, funds are debited directly from your currency balance. If you have sufficient funds in that currency, you won't be charged any foreign exchange conversion fees.

That means, if you're shopping in London with £500 in your GBP balance, you'll pay exactly that amount.

However, if you have an insufficient currency balance, HSBC will automatically convert it, and you will be charged in Ringgit Malaysia instead.

Global ATM Access: Withdraw cash locally at any HSBC or MEPS ATM, and internationally at Visa network ATMs worldwide.

Contactless Payments: Tap to pay for quick transactions. In Malaysia, you can use contactless payments for purchases up to RM250 without entering your PIN.

Real-Time Transaction Alerts: Get instant notifications for your purchases, helping you monitor your spending and detect any unauthorised transactions quickly.

HSBC home&Away Privileges: Access HSBC's home&Away privilege programme, which offers exclusive deals and discounts on dining, shopping, travel, and entertainment both locally and abroad.

Mobile Wallet Ready: Add your card to Samsung Pay for convenient mobile payments.

Security Features: Your card includes chip technology, PIN protection, and fraud monitoring to keep your money safe.

The HSBC Advance Everyday Global Visa Debit Card is ideal if you:

  • Travel frequently or shop online from international merchants
  • Want to avoid foreign exchange fees on major currencies
  • Prefer the control of spending only what you have (debit vs. credit)
  • Already qualify for or maintain HSBC Advance banking status
  • Value multi-currency convenience in a single account

However, there are some things that you need to keep in mind:

  • Ensure you load sufficient funds in the currency you plan to spend to avoid the 1% conversion fee
  • The card prioritizes debiting from the specific foreign currency balance when available
  • If you don't have funds in the transaction currency, the amount will convert from your MYR balance and incur a 1% fee
  • Daily limits reset at midnight Malaysia time
