What Is Boost Biz Merchant Wallet?

Most cashless payments in Malaysia take a day to reach a merchant's bank account, so businesses can't touch that money until the next working day. But with Boost Biz Merchant Wallet, you get paid the moment a customer pays, and you can use that money right away to pay suppliers, settle bills, or cash out to your bank account. It's run by Axiata Digital eCode Sdn Bhd, the same company behind the consumer Boost Wallet, and its e-money activities are regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

You can scan and pay suppliers or vendors via Boost DuitNow QR, settle utility and water bills or set them to recur, and accept payments from tourists in Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia through International QR Payment. It also tracks your daily sales and lets you cash out to your bank account whenever you need to.

Who Can Sign Up For Boost Biz Merchant Wallet

Boost Biz Merchant Wallet is open to any Boost Biz merchant, registered as either an Individual Merchant or a Direct Merchant. Individual Merchants register with their IC and their latest three months of bank statements. Direct Merchants register with their SSM business registration number and the equivalent company documents.

To register as an Individual Merchant, you need to be Malaysian or a Malaysian PR, and at least 18 years old.

Wallet Tiers And Transaction Limits

Your wallet size depends on which type of merchant you registered as, not on extra ID verification like the consumer wallet uses. If you're weighing this against the personal product, RinggitPlus has a separate breakdown of the consumer Boost Wallet's tiers and fees.

Merchant Type Wallet Size/ Cash-In Limit Monthly Transaction Limit Annual Transaction Limit
Individual Merchant RM30,000 RM60,000 RM720,000
Direct Merchant RM500,000 RM500,000 RM6,000,000

These limits are approved by BNM. If your day's sales go over the limit, the extra amount is paid into your bank account instead on the next working day. That's the same process merchants used before Merchant Wallet existed.

Fees You Need To Pay

Signing up as a Boost Biz merchant comes with fees that depend on which services you choose.

Item Charge
Boost Biz Activation Package (DuitNow QR code, marketing materials, business portal, settlement reports, support) RM100, one-time
International QR Payment Activation RM20, one-time (currently waived for all Boost Biz merchants)
Biz mPOS Subscription RM15/month per terminal
Biz Payment Link RM100/year
Biz Booster RM9.90/month

On top of that, every transaction has a fee called Merchant Discount Rate (MDR), a percentage Boost takes from each sale. The rate depends on the payment method and package you're on.

Payment Method Rate
Boost DuitNow QR 1.0%
International QR Payment 1.0% for QR, 1.3% for local credit cards, 0.8% for local debit cards, 3.0% for foreign credit/debit cards
Biz mPOS 2.5% for credit cards, 2.0% for debit cards, 3.0% for foreign cards, 1.0% to 3.0% for e-wallets depending on the provider
Biz Payment Link 1.0% for QR, 1.5% or a minimum of RM1 for online banking

Do note that any fee waiver depends on your own contract with Boost, so confirm your own package before assuming these are the final rates you'll pay.

How To Use Boost Biz Merchant Wallet

Once it's active, customer payments through Boost DuitNow QR land in your wallet straight away instead of the next working day. From there, you can scan and pay your own suppliers or vendors via Boost DuitNow QR, and pay utility and water bills or set them to recur. You can also check the day's takings through the "Payment Received Today" card on your dashboard.

When you want the money in your bank account, go to Wallet/Manage Wallet, then Cash Out, and enter the amount. Only the account owner can do this, and the money lands in your settlement bank account the next working day. Cash Out itself doesn't charge a fee.

Accepting International Payments

Boost Biz Merchant Wallet also accepts payments from customers outside Malaysia. Tourists from Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia can scan your Boost DuitNow QR using their home country's bank app or eWallet, and pay in their own currency. You still receive the amount straight away in MYR, with no conversion needed on your end. The wider DuitNow QR network Boost belongs to also covers more countries through the Alipay+ partnership, including China, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

Merchant Wallet only receives payments from customers abroad. It has no function for sending money out to suppliers or accounts overseas.

How Your Boost Biz Merchant Wallet Balance Is Protected

Money in Boost Biz Merchant Wallet is e-money, not a bank deposit. That means it isn't covered by PIDM's RM250,000 deposit insurance, unlike money in a bank account. Boost Biz operates under Axiata Digital eCode Sdn Bhd's e-money licence from BNM, the same licence that covers the consumer Boost Wallet. That licence requires Boost to keep customer money in separate trust accounts, apart from its own funds.

Keeping Your Merchant Wallet Secure

Activating Merchant Wallet requires you to accept Boost's Terms & Conditions and set a 6-digit PIN before you can start using it. Only the account owner can cash out, so staff accounts with lower permissions can process sales but can't withdraw funds.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can self-register through the Boost Business App or the Merchant Portal at merchant.boostbusiness.my. Merchant Wallet only becomes available once your application is approved.

No. Customers can pay by scanning your Boost DuitNow QR code. If you also want to accept in-person card payments, Boost offers Biz mPOS terminals for a separate monthly subscription.
