What can I do with GrabPay?
You can use it for your Grab rides, GrabFood orders, bill payments, mobile prepaid reloads (Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile and TuneTalk are all supported), and in-store purchases at participating merchants by scanning the outlet's QR code and confirming the amount in-app.
You can also send GrabPay Credits directly to family or friends who use the app.
Every transaction earns GrabCoins, except bill payments. Once you've built up a balance, you can offset up to 100% of a bill using points at GrabPay merchants, as long as the bill is at least RM4.
How does the GrabPay Wallet work?
New users start on a Basic Wallet, capped at RM500 in balance and RM500 in daily spending. To unlock the full feature set, you'll need to complete Grab's identity verification (KYC) process by submitting a clear photo of your MyKad or passport.
That upgrades you to a Premium Wallet, raising your balance limit to RM10,000 and your daily spending limit to RM9,999. It's the only tier that lets you send credits to other users or transfer money overseas.
Is it safe to use GrabPay?
Of course. GrabPay is regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) as an e-money issuer, so the KYC step is compulsory, not optional. Transactions are encrypted and monitored by a 24/7 fraud-detection system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between GrabPay and GrabPay Wallet?
GrabPay is the overall service, while GrabPay Wallet is the e-money account inside it that holds your balance.
Can foreigners use GrabPay in Malaysia?
Yes, foreigners can sign up using their passport. However, funding the wallet is more limited than for Malaysian citizens, though, as cards issued outside Malaysia aren't accepted for top-ups. Keen foreigners need either a locally issued card or a bank account to add funds.
Does GrabPay come with a physical or digital card?
No. GrabPay is wallet-only, and payments are processed through the app. There's no linked physical or digital debit card tied to your GrabPay balance, so you cannot tap or swipe a GrabPay card at terminals.
Can I send money overseas with GrabPay?
Only with a Premium Wallet. Basic Wallet users cannot transfer money locally or overseas, and that feature only unlocks once you've completed full KYC.
How do I top up my GrabPay Wallet?
You can top up with a debit or credit card, through online banking, or by linking your Maybank2u account for faster top-ups. You can also set up Auto Top-Up so your wallet reloads automatically once your balance runs low.
Is my money in GrabPay protected?
Not in the same way as a bank deposit is. GrabPay balance is e-money, so it isn't covered by PIDM. It's worth treating GrabPay as spending money rather than a place to park your savings.
