What is a MAE Wallet?
MAE Wallet is a Shariah-compliant e-wallet that has all of the M2U banking features which allows you to manage your money and transactions anytime, anywhere.

General FAQs:
1. What are the differences between MAE and other accounts?
MAE Wallet is issued by Maybank and its authorized manager, Maybank Islamic based on the Shariah contact of Wakalah (agency), which allows customers to open a Maybank e-wallet account instantly.
MAE Wallets that are registered starting from 20 March 2020 will be managed by Maybank Islamic and MAE Wallets that were registered prior to 20 March 2020 will continue under Maybank. For MAE Wallets under Maybank, you have the option to have it managed by Maybank Islamic via your MAE Profile.
2. What are the benefits of MAE Wallet compared to other Maybank deposit products?
You get to enjoy:
- Convenience of product applications whereby customers can apply through Maybank’s Mobile Application at any time and from anywhere.
- New lifestyle features that are currently only offered via MAE i.e. Flight Ticket purchase, Request Money, Split Bill and Send Money.
3. Can I withdraw cash from Maybank ATMs or SRMs (Self Recycle Machines)?
Yes. New-to-bank customers with the MAE Visa Debit Card or existing-to-bank customers with MAE linked to their existing debit card or MAE Visa Debit Card can perform cash withdrawals.
4. What else can I do with the MAE app?
With the MAE app, you get to:
- Perform payments using QRPay
- Pay your bills and perform prepaid top-ups
- Do fund transfers to own and other bank accounts
- Access to thousands of our Maybank2u billers
- Purchase flight tickets through a single app
- Split Bills or Request Money from/with your friends and family.
5. Can I close my MAE Wallet?
Most definitely! You can perform account closure at any Maybank branch near you.
6. Who should I contact if I detect any fraud or unauthorized transaction from my MAE virtual card?
Call the Maybank Group Call Centre (MGCC) at 1-300-88-6688 as soon as possible for assistance!
7. How long is the validity of the Split Bill feature? Can I perform Split Bill with friends who don’t have MAE?
Your friends have 30 days to perform Split Bill payments to you which will expire after 30 days. Additionally, yes, you can create Split Bill for your friends and share the Split Bill details via social media i.e. Whatsapp, Messenger and so on.
8. How long is the validity of the Request Money feature? Can I perform a Request Money from friends who don’t have MAE?
Your friend has 5 days to perform payment to you. The request will expire after 5 days. Additionally, yes, you can Request Money from your friends who don’t have MAE by sharing the Request Money details with them using social media.
9. How long is the validity of the Send Money feature? Can I perform Send Money to friends who don’t have MAE?
Money will be immediately debited from and credited into the respective accounts. Additionally, yes, the money will be sent using the existing Mobile Transfer function. You are required to share the claim code with your friends to claim the money.
10. Are there any charges for using MAE?
No, all related services are free of charge!
11. Do I get any interest/ profit from the MAE Wallet?
No, the MAE Wallet does not earn any interest/ profit.
12. What is the currency that I can use on the MAE app?
The MAE app only uses the Ringgit Malaysia currency.
13. Are there any fees for early account closure?
No fees will be charged! You can walk into any Maybank branch near you to close your account.
14. Can I apply for MAE as an existing M2U user?
Yes! However, you won’t be getting a virtual card as the MAE Wallet will be linked to your existing M2U access. Additionally, you will be able to withdraw cash from Maybank’s Self-Service Terminal (ATM/SRM) using your existing Debit/ATM card.
15. What is MSOS?
Maybank Secured Online Shopping or MSOS is one of Maybank’s card features to ensure your online transactions are secured and protected. All virtual card transactions will require an MSOS which will be sent to your MAE’s registered phone number. If you would like to change your MSOS number, you may contact the Maybank Group Call Centre at 1-300-88-6688 for assistance.
16. Are there any limits to the Split Bill feature?
Yes! They are as follows:
- Minimum Split Bill amount: RM1.00
- Maximum Split Bill amount: RM4,999.99
- Maximum number of split requests: 30
17. Can I make a purchase at a non-3D site using the MAE virtual card?
By default, your MAE virtual card is opt-out from non-3D transactions. Please call the Maybank Group Call Centre at 1-300-88-6688 to opt in and enable the function to make purchases at non-3D secure sites.
18. What happens if my MAE Wallet is inactive?
Your MAE Wallet will be closed automatically after 90 calendar days if there is no monetary activity after onboarding.
Existing MAE accountholders FAQs:
1. Can I switch my current MAE Wallet to a Shariah-compliant account?
Most definitely! You can switch to a Shariah-compliant MAE Wallet under your MAE Profile. The switching will take effect on the following calendar day after the request is made, subject to the assessment by Maybank.
2. Can I have two (2) MAE Wallet?
Unfortunately, no. You can only open one MAE Wallet.
Is MAE Wallet available for non-Maybank users?
Yes, definitely! No worries if you don’t have a Maybank account yet as you can still download the app. Simply sign up online for a MAE Wallet to enjoy all the features at your fingertips.
As a new Maybank/ MAE Wallet user, you may top-up your e-wallet account using:
- FPX (Minimum top-up of RM10)
- Debit cards from other banks (Minimum top-up of RM10)
- Cash Deposit Machine (CDM)
- Intrabank transfers from Maybank2u or ATM
- Interbank transfers from other banks
Do I get a card when I sign up for MAE Wallet?
A virtual MAE card is made available to you once you successfully sign up for a MAE Wallet. It will have a virtual card number, card expiration date and CVV — similar to how a physical debit card looks like, whereby you can use it for online purchases and even NFC payments like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay!
There’s a physical MAE Visa Debit Card too if you require it. Simply apply for the said card easily via the MAE app and you’ll receive the card to your mailing address within a few working days.
With the MAE Visa Debit Card, you can enjoy cashless payments, withdraw money from ATMs, track your expenses via the MAE app, get preferential exchange rates when you pay in other currencies (even online!), as well as the ability to freeze or unfreeze your card on the go via the MAE app.
How do I activate my MAE Scan & Pay (DuitNow QR)?
You will first need to set up your account to allow DuitNow QR payments to be done. In MAE, it’s called Scan & Pay and you can find this feature at the bottom of the navigation bar — spot a yellow icon!
Follow these steps to get started:
- Tap the ‘Scan & Pay’ yellow icon at the bottom navigation bar
- Log in with your registered credentials
- If required, you can set a preferred daily transaction limit or cumulative limit for Scan & Pay
- Enter the OTP received to enable Scan & Pay
- Enable and allow your mobile camera access function if permission was not previously allowed
Are there any fees that I should know about?
If you wish to apply for the MAE Visa Debit Card, an RM8 application fee will apply. Thereafter, a recurring annual fee of RM8 will apply to the said card charged to your account.
Who is eligible to sign up for a MAE Wallet?
Any Malaysians aged 12 years or older are eligible to sign up for a MAE Wallet. Both new and existing Maybank customers are eligible as well.
