Your TNG eWallet Balance Is Electronic Money
Your TNG eWallet balance is electronic money, not a bank deposit. Customer funds are kept in trust accounts with licensed banks or Islamic banks that are members of PIDM. These trust accounts are protected by PIDM if the bank holding the funds fails or goes bankrupt.
Customer funds are also kept separate from the company's business funds and cannot be used for business operations. They can only be used for authorised purposes, such as processing payments.
GO+ Invests Through A Money Market Fund
GO+ is an investment product offered through TNG eWallet in partnership with Principal Asset Management Berhad. It invests through Principal e-Cash, a Shariah-compliant money market fund managed by Principal. The GO+ balance is an investment rather than e-money or a deposit.
GO+ returns depend on market performance and may fluctuate; they are not guaranteed. GO+ is not a savings or deposit account and is not protected by PIDM. There is no lock-in period, so you can cash out your balance when needed.
How Your eWallet Balance And GO+ Differ
| Features | TNG eWallet Balance | GO+ |
| Type | Electronic money | Investment product |
| Underlying arrangement | Customer funds held in trust accounts with PIDM-member banks or Islamic banks | Principal e-Cash money market fund |
| Deposit account | No | No |
| PIDM protection | Trust accounts are protected by PIDM | No |
| Returns | Not applicable | May fluctuate and are not guaranteed |
| Lock-in period | — | None |
Your TNG eWallet balance and GO+ therefore serve different purposes. Your eWallet balance is e-money held against customer funds kept in trust accounts, while GO+ is an investment product linked to Principal e-Cash.
Security and Account Protection
TNG eWallet uses security measures including biometric verification, TapSecure, device and location monitoring, suspicious transaction checks, and automatic sign-outs.
Keep your six-digit PIN confidential and avoid using the app on rooted or jailbroken devices.
If you spot an unauthorised transaction, report it through the Unauthorised Transaction Reporting process as soon as possible. The transaction will be investigated and an update provided within 14 days. Refunds are subject to the eligibility requirements and conditions under the applicable policy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between my wallet limit and transaction limit?
Your wallet limit is the maximum balance you can hold, while your transaction limit controls how much you can send or spend at a time or within a given period. For example, an account with a RM20,000 wallet limit currently has a RM9,999 per-transaction limit, with daily and monthly limits of RM120,000.
Can TNG eWallet replace a bank account?
No. TNG eWallet is primarily designed for payments, transfers, and access to selected financial services, rather than for everyday banking. You can use it to pay bills, make purchases, transfer money and access products such as GO+, but it does not function like a conventional savings or current account.
Can foreigners use TNG eWallet?
Yes. Eligible foreign residents can register for TNG eWallet, while international tourists can also register if they meet TNG's requirements. The verification process and wallet limits depend on the type of account you are registering for. TNG requires foreign users to provide the relevant identity documentation during verification.
Is GO+ the same as a savings account?
No. GO+ invests your money in Principal e-Cash, a Shariah-compliant money market fund, so it is an investment product rather than a savings or deposit account. Returns are not guaranteed, and TNG states that GO+ is not protected by PIDM. You should therefore assess GO+ based on its investment features and risks rather than treating it as a conventional savings account.
Can I transfer money from TNG eWallet to a bank account?
Yes. Eligible users can transfer money between the eWallet and Malaysian bank accounts via supported transfer services, such as DuitNow Transfer. The service currently supports transfers to and from bank accounts, with applicable account and transaction limits.
Can I use TNG eWallet overseas?
Yes. TNG eWallet supports overseas QR payments in supported countries, while the TNG eWallet Visa Card can be used at eligible merchants worldwide where Visa is accepted. Overseas transactions can incur a 1% transaction conversion fee under TNG's Product Disclosure Sheet, so this should be factored into your spending costs.
What happens if there is an unauthorised transaction?
You can report an unauthorised transaction to TNG for investigation through its Unauthorised Transaction Reporting process. TNG will assess the transaction based on its applicable policy and the circumstances before determining whether a refund is available. You should report suspicious transactions promptly and keep your PIN and account credentials secure.
