What is the MediShield 2 Rider?
The MediShield 2 Rider is a medical insurance plan made for the purpose of giving additional coverage to anyone who needs it. So whether you get this plan by itself or as a rider on something you already have, the policy is a great choice to have.
It is a long term medical coverage policy, with no lifetime limit and the additional perk of a no claim bonus. With the bonus your overall annual limit for the plan will increase by 10% every 5 years that you don’t make a claim.
How much does it cover?
It covers most if not all hospital and surgical related charges that could be incurred from the use of hospital equipment to supplies, to surgical fees, ICU usage, operating theater fee, anesthesia and physician visits.
Aside from that, this policy also offers protection for a selection of pre- and post-hospitalization care. In the case of pre-hospitalization, you’ll be covered for any diagnostic tests and specialist consultation that will lead to you being admitted in hospital.
As for the out-patient care, you will be covered for any emergency accidental treatment, both medical and dental for at least a month after your discharge. Also, in the case you need cancer treatment or kidney dialysis treatment you will be covered by the policy. Lastly, for outpatient care, you will have access to physiotherapy covered by the policy for about 90 days from either the date of your surgery or the date of your discharge.
How do the premiums and deductible work?
This policy comes with 3 plans that will be available to you as options, each with different premium ranges and coverage. Once you have decided on the plan you want you can then pick a deductible amount from RM5,000 to RM20,000 to RM75,000. This deductible will be amount borne by either yourself, your employer or your existing medical plan, if you have one.
After that there are a couple optional benefits you can choose to take on that will increase the reach of your policy. With some additional fees, you can extend your treatment to hospitals overseas, that way you will be covered even when you leave on a vacation overseas.
What else do I need to know about the policy?
Well, the minimum age for this policy is 30-days old, so parents who want to get this plan for your kids please take note. However, any individual who wants to pick it up, can do so as long as they are over 18. The maximum entry age for this plan is 70 years old, but if you already have it before then, you can continue to renew the plan till your 100th birthday.
