Frequently Asked Questions about Prudential PRUvalue med Medical Card

Things you might want to know

What is special about this Prudential medical insurance package?

Prudential PRUvalue Med is a healthcare insurance plan that'll make sure you and your family's finances are kept untouched with a lifetime protection for all your medical needs.

This medical card rider comes in 2 options: Med Saver 300 and Deductible, and offers a Med Value Point (in other words: lifetime limit) of up to RM2 million, with no annual limit.

This Med Value Point will be increased by 2% at the end of every 2 policy years, provided that you have not made any claims before and chose a R&B plan of RM300 and above.

That's not all, this Prudential medical card also guarantees a renewable of your plan every year without charging extra premiums and fees.

What can I get from Med Saver 300?

If you're looking for a comprehensive medical plan with savings portion, this option is the way to go. With Med Saver 300, you are actually savings on your total premiums, which will be used to fund for other goals:

  1. more savings = receive higher cash value at maturity
  2. more protection = increase life and critical illness coverage to RM150,000
  3. more benefits = increase medical coverage (Med Value Point and Room & Board)

Similar to co-insurance, you must first pay for your hospital admission, but at a fixed amount of RM300 before Prudential cover for any expenses.

What about Deductible plan?

A deductible medical card is suitable for those with an existing medical plan but with limited coverage. With this option, you must first pay for your hospital admission ranging from RM20,000 to RM100,000 before Prudential can cover for any expenses.

If you already have a group medical plan with a limit between those range, then you can opt for Deductible option to save on your premiums. If you're looking for the first medical card without a backup medical plan, this will not be a suitable choice.

Otherwise, you will have to fork out your own savings to cover for the first RM20,000, RM50,000, RM75,000 or RM100,000 of your hospital bill.

How can I claim from Prudential?

Prudential PruValue Med Medical Card has no annual limit, however, you'll be given the option to chose from up to 3 lifetime limits also known as Med Value Points, of RM1 million, RM1.5 million, or a maximum of RM2 million.

What happens if you have a claim amount of more than your selected Med Value Points? Fret not, as Prudential will also cover 80% of the exceeded amount. Still unclear? See below illustration:

Julia bought a PruValue Med with MVP of RM1.5 million, which expires at 80 years old. She has made a total claim of RM2 million, which exceed her MVP by RM500,000. In this scenario, Prudential is covering 80% of RM500,000 (RM400,000), whereas Julia is paying only 20% of it (RM100,000).

Tell me more about my outpatient benefits?

For trips to the operating theater or emergency room that does not require a long hospital stay such as outpatient cancer or kidney dialysis treatment, you can claim for up to 1.5 times of the chosen Med Value Point per lifetime!

Yup, that means your take home medicine, consultation, and examination test fees will all be paid for by Prudential.

How much do I need to pay for the PRUvalue Med?

The total premium that you have to pay will depend on your underwriting requirements such as your age, job, and health status.

Your premiums can be paid yearly, half-yearly, quarterly or monthly via Auto Debit, Credit card, Cash or Cheque.

When can I start using my Prudential medical card?

There will be a minimum waiting period of 30 days from your policy's commencement date before your medical insurance policy goes into full effect for basic illnesses and 120 days for specified illnesses.

The maternity complication on the other hand has a waiting period of 365 days - that's a full year wait!

Can I renew my Prudential PRUvalue Med policy?

You won't have to worry about renewing your policy each year as the PRUvalue med is a auto renewable medical plan, which means protection is guaranteed as long as you pay your insurance premiums on time!
