How fast is 500Mbps?
In a perfect world, you should be getting up to 62.5 MB/s (1MB/s = 8Mb/s) according to the advertised speed, but remember that this is on a best effort” basis only. At such data transfer rates, you’ll also need a computer that’s reasonably powerful to make full use of such speeds.
What sort of benefit would I receive from such a fast Internet connection?
In 2016 when it was launched, 500Mbps is considered among the fastest consumer home broadband connection not just in Malaysia, but anywhere in the world. If all you’re going to do is to surf the Internet and read articles, then you won’t be able to feel much of a difference between a 5Mbps plan and a 500 Mbps plan. If that’s the case, perhaps the 100Mbps plan from TIME is for you.
This plan is more suitable for gaming. While computers today still store most of the game files and does the graphics processing within the computer itself, game consoles like the Xbox One are able to give you a much better gaming experience when you’re connected to Microsoft’s servers, or what some people call “the cloud.
Besides, even if you won’t be using the cloud to do the heavy weight-lifting, why wait for hours to download a 9GB install file, when you can do that in just a few minutes?
