How to Claim for Own Damage (Accident)

The process requires immediate action, submission of documents, and vehicle assessment.

  • Immediate Action: After an accident, immediately call the 24-Hour Hotline (1 800 88 6333) to arrange for emergency assistance, towing to an approved panel workshop, and initial reporting.
  • Police Report: You must lodge a police report within 24 hours of the accident, as this is a legal requirement and a mandatory document for your claim.
  • Document Submission: Submit the fully Completed Claim Form and all required supporting documents to the panel workshop or a branch within a reasonable timeframe (typically within 7 to 14 days).
  • Vehicle Assessment: The insurance company will appoint an adjuster to survey the damage at the panel workshop. Once the claim is approved, the repairs will commence.
  • Claim Settlement: Upon completion of repairs, the payment will be made directly to the panel workshop (if a standard Own Damage claim) or to you (if a "Betterment" charge applies or if it's a Total Loss claim).

Documents Required for Own Damage Claim

Aside from the Completed Claim Form, you will also need the following supporting documents for an accident claim:

  • Identification & Vehicle Proof:
    • Original Police Report (lodged within 24 hours)
    • Copy of the Vehicle Ownership Certificate (VOC) or Vehicle Registration Card
    • Copy of the Insured's Identity Card (NRIC)
    • Copy of the Insured's Valid Driving License
    • Copy of the Insurance Policy / Cover Note (AmDrive Plus)
  • Driver Identification (If different from the Insured):
    • Copy of the Driver's Identity Card (NRIC)
    • Copy of the Driver's Valid Driving License
  • Visual Evidence:
    • Clear photographs of the damaged vehicle(s) and the accident scene (if available).
  • Company Vehicle Documentation (If applicable):
    • Copies of Company Forms (e.g., Form 9, 24, and 49) / Business Registration.
  • Payment & Finalisation:
    • Completed Giro/E-Payment Authorisation Form and a copy of your Bank Passbook/Statement (for direct payment/reimbursement, such as for the towing fee).

Note: The Insured (Owner) and the Driver (if different) should be ready to appear at the panel workshop or insurance branch to sign all necessary claim and discharge documents.

What is AmDrive Plus Insurance about?

AmDrive Plus is a comprehensive motor insurance plan for private cars. It protects your car against loss or damage due to fire, theft, or accidents.

It goes beyond basic car insurance by offering additional protection, such as Personal Accident coverage for you and your passengers, and a comprehensive 24-hour Auto Assist service. The goal is to give you financial security and peace of mind when driving.

What are the covers or benefits that you can get from AmDrive Plus Insurance?

AmDrive Plus provides three main categories of benefits:

  • Comprehensive Motor Coverage:
    • Covers the cost of repair or replacement if your car is damaged by fire, flood, theft, or accident.
    • Covers your legal responsibility (liability) if you injure someone or damage their property in an accident.
  • Personal Accident Coverage:
    • Provides a payout if you or your passengers suffer accidental death or Permanent Disablement (loss of use of a body part).
    • The sum insured can be doubled if the accident happens in your named vehicle on a national public holiday in Malaysia.
  • 24-Hour Auto Assist Service:
    • Offers free towing service after an accident.
    • Provides free minor roadside repair services, such as battery change, fuel delivery, and flat tyre change.
    • This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What are the unique features of this insurance plan?

The AmDrive Plus plan includes several unique features to make your protection stronger and more convenient. You can use the AmAssurance mobile app to immediately report accidents, submit photos, and get advice on the go. 

If you have an accident, a 24-Hour Accident Towing service is provided for free to take your car to an approved workshop. The policy may also offer a Waiver of Compulsory Excess, meaning the amount you normally have to pay first for a claim may be removed, depending on your age and the repairer you choose. 

Finally, the benefit amount you receive is protected by Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) up to a certain limit, adding an extra layer of security.

Can I cancel the policy after purchasing it?

Yes, you can choose to cancel your AmDrive Plus policy. To do this, you must give written notice to the insurance company, Liberty General Insurance Berhad. 

The company needs this notice at least 14 days before the date you want the cancellation to start. If you cancel, your refund is calculated based on the part of your insurance period that you did not use. 

This calculation uses a short-period basis. The insurer is allowed to keep a minimum premium, which means you may not receive a refund for the full period after the cancellation date.
