What is the AIG Travel Assist Domestic all about?
Off the bat it’s a travel insurance policy that caters to domestic travel, it is one of three plans under the AIG Travel Assist Comprehensive Travel Insurance Programme.
Having travel insurance even for a weekend getaway can be useful, simply because sometimes things can just go sideways on you.
What are the main benefits of this travel insurance policy?
Well like most policies, it covers the basics, personal accident and death. But it also takes into consideration your medical expenses in case of an emergency and medical evacuation if needed.
Other than that, you are covered for travel inconveniences such as flight cancellations, delays and loss of luggage. Its not easy to be away from home without your clothes and essentials. Therefore all of that is claimable if the airline is at fault.
Who’s eligible and how long is the coverage for?
Anyone between the age of 31 days old and 70 years old can purchase this insurance policy. If you travel across Malaysia often then check out the annual plan which is for anyone between 18 and 70 years of age.
Some of you are parents and if you’re looking to get your child covered, then you can always add them into your plan on a per-trip basis. They have at least 31 days old up to a maximum of 18 years and still studying to be eligible.
Since this is a domestic travel insurance plan, you are covered for up to 30 days from the date of departure. The 30-day policy is for both individuals, couples and families.
How do I submit a claim?
Whether it’s a simple matter of delayed luggage or a major accident, you will need to lodge a report. With the airline, if its airline related, the police if it was a reportable accident and the hospital if you received any sort of treatment.
Compile all these necessary documents and submit them along with a claim form that you can easily download. It would be best if you did this ASAP, usually within the first 2 weeks of the incident so as to not have any issues with your claim later on.
Can I cancel my policy?
Of course, but please be informed that you will need to submit a written notice to AIG’s registered address 30 days prior to cancellation.
