What is Z-Travel Insurance (International) Lite?
Lite is Zurich's online travel plan, built for people who'd rather sort out cover in a few clicks than go through an agent. It comes in two tiers, Basic and VIP, and leaves out a couple of the higher-end benefits found on the standard plan, but keeps what most travellers actually use: medical expenses, emergency evacuation, travel delay, baggage delay and personal accident cover.
Which plan tier suits me?
VIP doubles Basic's limits across the board and adds two benefits that Basic skips entirely, travel cancellation and the home care benefit:
| Benefit | Basic | VIP |
| Accidental Death & Permanent Disablement | RM100,000 | RM300,000 |
| Medical Expenses | RM100,000 | RM300,000 |
| Emergency Medical Evacuation & Repatriation | RM 1 million | RM1 million |
| Travel Cancellation | Not covered | RM20,000 |
| Travel Delay (min. 6 hrs) | Up to RM3,600 | Up to RM7,200 |
| Baggage Delay (min. 6 hrs) | Up to RM800 | Up to RM1,600 |
| Home Care Benefit | Not covered | RM3,000 |
| Special Coverage (amateur sports) | RM100,000 | RM300,000 |
Limits shown are per insured person. Refer to the policy wording for the full list of benefits, terms and conditions.
What doesn't Lite cover that the standard plan does?
Neither Basic nor VIP includes personal liability cover, and emergency cash isn't available on either tier.
If a trip carries higher liability exposure, renting a car overseas, for example, or staying somewhere you could be held responsible for damage, the agent-sold Silver, Gold or Diamond plans close that gap and are worth comparing against Lite before buying.
Who can buy the Lite plan?
Malaysians and non-Malaysians with permanent residency, a valid work permit, student permit or MM2H status can buy this plan.
Entry runs 30 days old to 70 years old under Individual, Individual & Spouse or Family Cover, extending to 85 under Senior Cover on a Single Trip or One-Way Trip. Children on a Family plan can join from 30 days old to 17, or 23 if still studying full-time, with a parent or guardian buying the policy on their behalf.
Does buying Lite directly save money?
Zurich's Lite premium sheet includes a 25% rebate on policies bought directly through its own online channel.
Which travel areas apply to a Lite policy?
Lite prices premiums using the same three-area system as the standard plan, so coverage areas don't change based on which tier you pick:
- Area 1: Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China (excluding Tibet and Mongolia), Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Maldives, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
- Area 2: Worldwide, excluding Canada, Mongolia, Nepal, Tibet and the USA.
- Area 3: Worldwide, with no exclusions.
Malaysian passport holders can travel almost anywhere under this system. Israel is the one destination that needs proper entry documentation beforehand, and war zones fall outside what any Lite policy covers.
Can I add Covid-19 cover to a Lite policy?
Yes, on both tiers. It's an optional add-on covering cancellation costs, overseas medical treatment, hospital allowance and a death benefit tied to Covid-19. As with the standard plan, a claim needs an approved vaccination behind it, unless you're medically exempt or under 18.
How long can a single Lite policy cover a trip?
A Single Trip on Lite is capped at 200 days, and each journey within an Annual Plan resets to 100 days. If a single stretch overseas runs past 100 days, a One-Way Trip policy (priced on a 1 to 5 day band) is the better fit, since cover ends once you land at your first destination.
Can a Lite policy be cancelled once it's bought?
Single Trip and One-Way Trip Lite policies can't be cancelled after they're issued. An Annual Plan can be cancelled anytime, as long as no claim has been made, with Zurich retaining its standard short-period rate for the time the policy was active.
Filing a claim on a Lite policy
The process is the same as the standard plan:
- Step 1: Notify Zurich within 24 hours of the incident.
- Step 2: Submit the claim within 30 days, starting online at mya.zurich.com.my/Myclaims for Insurance or egms.zurich.com.my/claims for Takaful.
- Step 3: Post the original supporting documents to Zurich General Insurance Malaysia Berhad / Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Berhad, Attn: General Claims Department – AHWC, Level 23A, Mercu 3, No. 3, Jalan Bangsar, KL Eco City, 59200 Kuala Lumpur.
Emergency number for Lite policyholders overseas
Same helpline as the standard plan: +603 7841 5630, run by Europ Assistance Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, 24 hours a day. Use it for hospital admissions, medical evacuation or any urgent assistance abroad.
What do I need on hand to file a Lite claim?
- Medical claims: original bills and receipts, a medical or specialist report, and a police report if the claim involves an accident.
- Baggage or personal effects claims: the carrier or hotel's property irregularity report, original purchase receipts, and photos of the damage.
- Travel delay claims: your original itinerary, boarding pass, and written confirmation of the delay from the carrier.
- Travel cancellation claims (VIP only): proof of deposit or advance payment, plus written confirmation of the cancellation and refund amount.
Because Lite doesn't include personal liability cover, there's no need to prepare third-party liability documentation the way a Silver, Gold or Diamond policyholder might.
