Chinese Language Social Media Content Creator

About You

RinggitPlus is Malaysia's leading personal finance platform, helping millions of Malaysians make smarter decisions about credit cards, personal loans, insurance, and savings. We've built a strong English-language presence, and now we're curious about something: can we connect with Chinese Malaysian audiences in their own language?

We're hiring a content creator to help us explore Chinese-language content - testing what works on Xiaohongshu, Facebook, and other platforms where Malaysian Chinese audiences hang out. This is an experimental role. We don't have all the answers yet, and that's the point. You'll help us figure it out.

This isn't a translation gig. We're not looking for someone to dub our English content into Mandarin (that would be weird and nobody would watch it). We want a creator who thinks in Chinese, understands Malaysian Chinese humour and culture, and can make personal finance content that doesn't feel like homework.

What You'll Do

  • Create original video and written content in Mandarin for Xiaohongshu, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok
  • Be on camera - yes, your face, regularly, talking about money (it's more fun than it sounds, we promise)
  • Handle the full production cycle: ideation, scripting, filming, editing (CapCut), publishing
  • Pioneer RinggitPlus's Xiaohongshu presence with educational content (no hard selling - the platform doesn't allow it anyway)
  • Make credit cards, loans, and budgeting genuinely interesting - or at least not boring enough to scroll past
  • Test different content formats and approaches - we want to learn what resonates with Malaysian Chinese audiences
  • Track what's working and what's flopping, then share those insights with the team
  • Stay on top of Xiaohongshu and Chinese social media trends (scrolling counts as work, finally)

What You Have

  • Native Mandarin speaker - you think in Chinese, you dream in Chinese, you argue with your parents in Chinese
  • 2-3 years creating social media content, ideally with some experience working within brand guidelines
  • Comfortable on camera - confident, engaging, the kind of person friends ask to take the video at dinner
  • Video editing skills - CapCut or equivalent, able to edit without external support
  • Canva for graphics and thumbnails
  • Working English proficiency - our internal comms are in English (yes, we see the irony)
  • Cantonese or Hokkien is a bonus - code-switching adds authenticity

What You're Like

  • You find personal finance genuinely interesting - you're the friend who reads the credit card T&Cs for fun (okay, maybe not fun, but you read them)
  • You scroll Xiaohongshu because you want to, not because someone's paying you to (although now someone will be)
  • You understand Malaysian Chinese culture - not mainland China TikTok trends, but actual Malaysian Chinese humour, references, and communication styles
  • You're comfortable with uncertainty - this is an experiment, we're figuring things out together
  • You can meet deadlines - creative freedom comes with professional discipline
  • You take feedback well and iterate quickly - some content will flop, that's how we learn
  • You'd rather make content than talk about making content

Why This Role Is Interesting

You won't be executing someone else's strategy - you'll be helping to create it. This is ground-floor stuff: figuring out what works, what doesn't, and what RinggitPlus's Chinese-language presence should look like. If the experiment succeeds, you'll have shaped something from scratch.

Chinese Malaysians who prefer consuming content in Mandarin don't have many options for trustworthy personal finance guidance. Most financial content is either in English or feels like it was translated by someone's auntie using Google. You could change that.

Also, you get to expense Xiaohongshu scrolling as "market research". That's not nothing.

We want to see your work - share videos you've created, your Xiaohongshu account, your TikTok/Instagram, or a portfolio link. If your content makes us learn something or laugh (ideally both), you're probably the right person.
