What Is The Maybank Cash Back Mastercard Platinum?
The Maybank Cash Back Mastercard Platinum rewards spending you're probably already doing every day, like dining out, ride-hailing, and streaming, with up to 8% cashback. It's free for life, and you'll need to earn at least RM24,000 a year to apply. You'll also pay no currency conversion fee when you use it in Singapore, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, or Indonesia.
How Much Cashback Can You Earn?
You can earn up to 8% cashback on these categories, as long as you spend at least RM1,500 on retail purchases that month. Spend less, and you'll only get 0.2% instead:
- Dining, including online delivery
- Digital lifestyle spending, like ride-hailing and online groceries
- Online entertainment, like video and music streaming, gaming, and app store purchases like the Apple App Store and Google Play
Each category has a monthly cap of RM18 cashback, so the most you can earn from all three combined is RM54 a month, or RM648 a year. Any other purchase outside these categories earns a flat 0.2%, with no cap.
How Does The 0% FX Mark-Up Work?
This card removes Maybank's own currency conversion fee when you tap or swipe to pay in Singapore, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, or Indonesia. This will only remove Maybank's part of the fee. Mastercard still charges its own 1.25% conversion fee on top, and the deal only works for in-person payments, not online purchases in foreign currency.
What Other Fees Should You Know About?
Other than interest and late fees, there are a few other charges that apply depending on how you use the card:
- Cash withdrawal: 2.52% of the amount, or RM11.65, whichever is more
- Annual service tax: RM25 per card (a government fee, not a bank charge)
- Card replacement: RM50
- Dishonoured cheque: RM100
- Sales receipt copy: RM15
- Old statement request: RM5 to RM10 a month, depending on how far back
What Documents Do You Need To Apply?
The documents you need depend partly on how you're employed, but every application starts with these:
- Copy of your NRIC (both sides) or passport, and the same for any supplementary cardholder
- Latest BE form with official tax receipt
- Last 3 months' pay slips
- Last 6 months' bank statement
If you're self-employed, send your Business Registration and 6 months of bank statements instead of pay slips. If you're an expat, you'll also need a letter from your employer confirming how long your work contract runs.
