Who Is Suitable To Buy AIA A-Life MediFlex?

AIA A-Life MediFlex suits you if you want a standalone medical plan with no lifetime limit and you're happy to carry a deductible.

  • You choose a deductible of RM500 per disability or RM20,000 a year. A disability here means any health condition that requires hospitalisation.
  • Your annual limit runs from RM180,000 on Plan 180 to RM350,000 on Plan 350, or up to RM1.5 million on Plan 350 with the A-Plus MediBoost rider.
  • At age 30, Plan 250 with a RM500 deductible costs RM1,303 a year for a man and RM1,297 for a woman.

If you'd rather have no deductible at all, or you plan to stay outside Malaysia for more than 90 days at a time, other plans may suit you better.

AIA A-Life MediFlex is a regular premium medical and health plan from AIA Bhd. Once you've paid your deductible, it pays your eligible hospital and surgical bills plus listed outpatient treatment, and it covers you until age 100.

If you want more protection, you can add A-Plus MediBoost to raise your limit, or A-Plus MediRecover for a lump sum after a long hospital stay.

Want to compare it with other plans? Browse every plan on our medical card comparison, or see standalone medical cards. You can also read AIA's currentA-Life MediFlex brochure (October 2026). AIA still hosts an earlier March 2025 version, which lists different cost-saving options.

What Are The Key Facts And Costs Of AIA A-Life MediFlex?

You may also see A-Life MediFlex written as A Life MediFlex or AIA MediFlex. A-Life MediFlex-i is the takaful version, sold by AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd.

Checked 13 October 2026 against AIA's A-Life MediFlex brochure (October 2026), FAQ (updated 1 June 2026) and panel hospital listing (9 February 2026).

These premiums are for standard risk, which means AIA adds no extra charge for health or job risks, and they cover the base plan only. They aren't guaranteed. AIA can revise them with 30 days' notice, and premiums rise with your age at each policy anniversary, the yearly date your policy started.

Across all plans and both deductible options, the annual premium runs from RM450 to RM1,498 at age 30, RM683 to RM1,962 at age 40 and RM1,033 to RM3,147 at age 50.

AIA's October 2026 brochure gives you two ways to share the cost. With a RM500 deductible per disability, you pay the first RM500 of eligible inpatient expenses for each health condition that puts you in hospital. The plan pays the rest, up to your annual limit.

With a RM20,000 deductible per policy year, you pay the first RM20,000 of eligible inpatient expenses each year. Say your hospital bills come to RM35,000 in one year. You pay RM20,000 and AIA pays RM15,000, if every charge is eligible.

The RM20,000 option costs less. On Plan 250 at age 30, it costs RM554 a year for a man and RM495 for a woman.

When you turn 60, you can switch to a RM500 deductible per disability without AIA checking your health again, or stay on RM20,000.

Pros And Cons Of AIA A-Life MediFlex

Pros

  • You won't run into a lifetime limit, and your annual limit starts fresh every policy year, at RM180,000 on Plan 180, RM250,000 on Plan 250 and RM350,000 on Plan 350.
  • If you want a bigger limit, A-Plus MediBoost lifts Plan 250 to RM1 million and Plan 350 to RM1.5 million. It also gives you a case management team that supports you from diagnosis to recovery.
  • You're covered for outpatient kidney dialysis and cancer treatment as charged, plus day care procedures and emergency accident treatment, including dental. It also covers tests and treatment from 60 days before to 150 days after a hospital stay.
  • Common illnesses are covered too. Outpatient treatment in hospital for bronchitis, dengue fever, influenza and pneumonia is covered up to RM3,000, RM4,000 or RM6,000 a year, depending on your plan.
  • AIA Vitality adds benefits at no extra premium, though it costs RM10 a month to join. Gold status adds 50% to your room and board, and Platinum adds 100%, and the health screening benefit is RM500 on Gold and RM600 on Platinum every two years.

Cons

  • The premium isn't guaranteed and rises with age. A man on Plan 250 with a RM500 deductible pays RM1,303 at age 30, RM2,409 at age 50 and RM11,606 at age 70.
  • You pay the first part of each bill yourself. That's RM500 for each health condition that puts you in hospital, or the first RM20,000 of inpatient bills each policy year on the cheaper option.
  • Room and board is capped at RM180, RM250 or RM350 a day, for up to 150 days a policy year. AIA also only pays charges it considers reasonable and customary for the treatment.
  • Plan 180 can't take A-Plus MediBoost, so its annual limit stays at RM180,000. If you want the bigger limit, choose Plan 250 or Plan 350.
  • AIA doesn't cover pre-existing conditions, and specified illnesses have a 120-day waiting period. Specified illnesses are certain conditions AIA names in the policy.

What AIA A-Life MediFlex Doesn't Cover

These are the main exclusions AIA lists in its FAQ. The list isn't exhaustive, so ask for the sales illustration and policy contract to see the full one.

  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Specified illnesses in the first 120 days of the policy, and any other condition in the first 30 days, except a covered injury
  • Outpatient kidney dialysis if the first symptoms appear within 30 days of the policy starting, and outpatient cancer treatment within 60 days
  • Pregnancy, miscarriage and childbirth
  • Conditions present at birth, and congenital or hereditary conditions that appeared before age 17
  • Mental or nervous disorders, alcoholism and drug abuse
  • Cosmetic and plastic surgery, and vision correction surgery
  • Glasses, contact lenses, artificial limbs and hearing aids
  • Intraocular lenses, except monofocal lenses used in cataract surgery
  • Dental care, unless an accident causes it
  • Admissions for tests, check-ups or preventive treatment only, and treatment for weight loss or gain
  • Organ donor expenses, including the donor's costs and complications. Transplant cover is for the recipient only, once per lifetime
  • Injuries from war, self-harm, breaking the law or nuclear radiation
  • Treatment overseas if you live or travel outside Malaysia for more than 90 consecutive days, except in Singapore and Brunei

Two Similar Plans

If you're comparing plans, these two are in a similar price range.

Manulife ManuEZ-Med is a pure protection medical plan with a lifetime limit of RM2.5 million. Its Platinum plan has an annual limit of RM250,000, a RM500 deductible per policy year and room and board of RM250 a day with no limit on days. Manulife's latest published rate for a man up to age 30 is RM1,068 a year (from its September 2024 table) versus RM1,303 for MediFlex Plan 250 with a RM500 deductible per disability. It takes new applicants aged 17 to 45, whereas MediFlex takes anyone up to age 70.

MSIG FlexiHealth Plan D has an annual limit of RM200,000 and a lifetime limit of RM800,000. Room and board is RM500 a day, with no deductible unless you choose one. MSIG's rate for ages 30 to 34 is RM1,211 a year. On MediFlex Plan 180, which has an RM180,000 limit and a RM500 deductible per disability, it's RM1,081 for a man and RM1,128 for a woman aged 30. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for AIA A-Life MediFlex?

AIA sells it through its Life Planners. Ask for the sales illustration and the product disclosure sheet before you decide, so you can see your own premium. When you apply, state your age and medical history accurately, because pre-existing conditions aren't covered. Once your policy starts, you have 15 days to cancel for a full premium refund, less any medical examination costs.

What's the difference between Plan 180, Plan 250 and Plan 350?

The annual limit and the daily room-and-board amount are what change. Plan 180 gives RM180,000 and RM180 a day, Plan 250 gives RM250,000 and RM250 a day, and Plan 350 gives RM350,000 and RM350 a day. Outpatient treatment in hospital for bronchitis, dengue fever, influenza and pneumonia, and home nursing care also increase with the plan, at RM3,000, RM4,000 and RM6,000. Surgical fees, intensive care and most other hospital costs are paid as charged within the annual limit on all three plans. Only Plan 250 and Plan 350 can take the A-Plus MediBoost rider.

What's the difference between A-Life MediFlex and A-Life MediFlex-i?

A-Life MediFlex-i is the takaful version, sold by AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd. It also has no lifetime limit, covers you to age 100 and covers the insured from 14 days to 70 years old. You pay contributions instead of premiums, and AIA PUBLIC Takaful doesn't guarantee them, just as AIA doesn't guarantee MediFlex premiums. Its riders are A-Plus MediBoost-i and A-Plus MediRecover-i.

Is treatment overseas covered?

Yes, worldwide, with a limit. AIA pays overseas treatment at the same rate as treatment in Malaysia, so if the overseas bill is higher, AIA pays only up to the Malaysian charge. Coverage stops if you live or travel outside Malaysia for more than 90 consecutive days, except in Singapore and Brunei. Overseas room and board has the same daily amounts as in Malaysia, and emergency evacuation and repatriation is covered up to USD 1,000,000 per event.

Can I raise the annual limit above RM350,000?

Yes, with the A-Plus MediBoost rider, available for Plan 250 and Plan 350. It lifts Plan 250 to RM1 million and Plan 350 to RM1.5 million a year. It also adds Personal Medical Case Management, a dedicated team that supports you from diagnosis to recovery. The rider costs extra. At age 30, AIA's rate is RM219 a year for a man on Plan 250 and RM293 on Plan 350, or RM201 and RM272 for a woman, for standard risk.
