The Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB) has collaborated with Bursa Malaysia to organise “Investment Month” throughout November to expose institutions of higher education to the financial and securities industry in Malaysia.

The month-long initiative aims to “expose participants to the world of investment, assist them to understand professional qualifications that are considered industry benchmarks, and prepare them with knowledge related to career opportunities in the field,” according to a statement by SEFB.

To kick things off, a webinar entitled “Introduction to Bursa Malaysia’s Financial Learning Portals” was organised, while other activities that will be conducted throughout the month include alumni talks, webinars on professional qualifications and investments, and investment games.

The virtual opening ceremony was officiated by Bursa Malaysia CEO Datuk Muhammad Umar Swift, who noted that the pandemic has changed the investment industry through the adoption of technology. “To foster financial literacy among the wider society, we have launched Bursa Academy, a content-rich e-learning website to facilitate financial literacy and investment learning for the public” he said.

A.A. Deepa, Bursa’s head of education and group sustainability, explained that the Bursa Academy portal is designed to strengthen the digital presence by widening their reach to as many investors as possible, educating them across the securities, derivatives, and Islamic capital markets, while assisting them to navigate across each programme that is offered in the portal.
