The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) and the Securities Commission (SC) have launched a new Smart Manufacturing category under the NIMP Strategic Co-Investment Fund (NIMP CoSIF). The initiative supports automation, digitalisation, and other technologies that improve manufacturing efficiency.
Under this category, the government will give small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-tier companies (MTCs) RM2 for every RM1 they raise from private investors, until 2030.
MITI and the SC have also temporarily increased how much the government contributes to businesses under the “Other Sectors” category. Previously, the government gave RM1 for every RM2 raised.
Until the end of 2027, it will now give RM1 for every RM1 raised instead, doubling its contribution rate. This brings “Other Sectors” businesses the same level of government support already given to Priority Sectors and New Growth Sectors under NIMP 2030.
Businesses don’t receive this funding directly from the government. Instead, they raise money through approved equity crowdfunding (ECF) or peer-to-peer (P2P) financing platforms, and the government adds its own contribution on top, based on how much the business successfully raises.
Since the scheme launched in February 2025, it has helped 40 companies raise a combined RM185 million as at the end of June 2026, according to MITI and the SC.
If you run a small business exploring alternatives to bank loans, Bank Negara Malaysia has also expanded its SME financing support, including options aimed at first-time borrowers, since new businesses often don’t yet have the credit history or track record that standard bank loans require.
