Alliance Bank has teased the arrival of a new card offering, which is deemed to be “the next revolution” where “everything is about to change”.
In a Facebook post containing the teaser image, the bank shared a visual of a translucent card superimposed against a phone, with a brief caption of “On your mark, get ready to digitalise your card!”. This leads us to believe that this may very well be a form of digital or virtual credit card offering. To note, virtual card offerings by banks have been on the rise globally these days as it is marketed to be both safer and more convenient.
In Malaysia, it is still more common to find physical cards in the market, but some local banks have also taken to providing an accompanying digital or virtual version within their mobile banking app so that cardholders can already start using their approved card via the digital/virtual version while waiting for the physical version to arrive after applying for it. One good example is the Maybank Grab Mastercard Platinum credit card, where approved cardholders can use the the activated virtual card first before Maybank sends them their actual card.
Aside from this, Alliance Bank’s teaser also indicated that the new card will be a collaboration with Visa, but otherwise, not much else is shared. We will continue to keep an eye out for further information, and will update again if we find out more. As Alliance Bank has also said in its teaser, stay tuned!
