The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has announced the zakat fitrah (personal tithe) rates for this year, which are set at RM7, RM15, and RM22, depending on the type of rice consumed.
The board explained that the rates are determined based on the price of rice most commonly consumed by Muslims in Selangor, calculated at 2.6 kilogrammes per gantang. The minimum rate of RM7 applies to those who consume local white rice and imported white rice, as set by the Selangor Fatwa Committee. The RM15 rate is designated for individuals who consume brown rice, glutinous rice, red rice, and fragrant rice, while the highest rate of RM22 applies to those who consume Ponni herb rice, Basmati, and Japanese rice.
To facilitate payments, LZS has introduced coloured fitrah coupons: green for RM7, red for RM15, and orange for RM22. Additionally, the board has appointed 2,836 assistant ‘amil’ fitrah (tithe collectors) to oversee the collection process. Payments can also be made through 18 assistants stationed at higher education institutions and 97 tahfiz and private religious schools in Selangor. The board reminded Muslims to ensure they make their payments through certified collectors.

Encouraging early zakat payments to facilitate timely distribution to those in need, LZS has also made various digital payment methods available. These include EZakatPay, internet banking, MyEg, and Pos Online, along with e-wallet applications such as GoPayz and Boost. To accommodate payers, all 19 LZS branches across Selangor will operate seven days a week throughout Ramadan, including public holidays, with extended business hours.
The board also advised those eligible to fulfil other zakat obligations, such as zakat on wealth, income, and business.
