Bank Simpanan Nasional will apply an 8% service tax to the auto reload fee for its BSN Zing Card starting 1 March 2026, following changes to Malaysia’s Sales and Service Tax rules covering financial services.
The service tax applies only to the fee charged for using the auto reload feature and does not affect the amount reloaded into the card or manual top-ups.
The move is in line with the expansion of the Sales and Service Tax scope under the amended Service Tax Regulations 2018, which brought certain financial services under service tax from 1 July 2025.
As the auto reload function is classified as a financial service, the associated fee will now be subject to service tax from March 2026.
Customers who use the auto reload feature will see a slightly higher total fee once the service tax is applied, although the increase depends on the existing auto reload fee charged by the bank.
Those who prefer to avoid the additional cost can continue using manual reload options, which are not affected by the service tax.
