Insurer Allianz Malaysia has launched a new comprehensive insurance called the Allianz EV Shield for electric vehicle (EV) owners, offering up to RM15,000 coverage for their home EV wall chargers against a variety of misfortunes. This is in addition to a personal liability coverage of up to RM50,000 for third-party deaths, injuries, or damages arising from the use of home EV wall chargers, as well as several other benefits.
According to Allianz, the full list of coverage provided by via the Allianz EV Shield plan is as follows:

Coverage for home EV wall chargers against fire, lightning, theft, or natural disasters | Up to RM15,000 |
Coverage for loss or damage to the portable charging cable due to fire, theft, accidental collision, and overturning | Up to RM2,000 |
Personal liability coverage for death or bodily injury to third party, or damage to third-party property arising from the use of home EV wall charger | Up to RM50,000 |
Compassionate cover for damages or injuries while using public EV chargers | Up to RM5,000 |
In addition to the above list, the Allianz EV Shield plan also comes with some extra benefits, including 24-hour towing services to the nearest charging stations or your home if your car were to run out of charge (available nationwide). Alternatively, policyholders within the Klang Valley can also tap into on-the-spot EV charging assistance via Allianz’s Road Rangers.
To celebrate both the launch of this new product and the insurer’s overall EV aspirations, Allianz will be running a campaign where you can earn RM100 worth of charging credit, awarded by YinsonGreenTech. Running from today until 31 May 2024, it will be made available to those who insure their EVs under the Allianz Private Car (comprehensive) policy – provided to the first 3,000 eligible customers on a first-come first-served basis.
