Zurich Malaysia has entered into a partnership with Amtel for Amtel’s launch of its enhanced connected toll reader and dashcam device, Lokatag Pro. As the insurer partner of Amtel, Zurich is set to offer streamlined products and services for Amtel’s customers, including personalised telematics insurance, as well as automated motor insurance and takaful claims processes.

For context, Amtel’s new Lokatag Pro is an evolution of the existing Lokatag device, which was first introduced back in 2019 as a car accessory tailored for toll payment convenience. Now, it has been upgraded to include a range of new features, including the use of infra-red technology to support traditional and new NFC Touch ‘n Go (TNG) cards and to allow access through SmartTAG access.

The new device also comes with an AI-Voice prompt feature that provides real-time updates on card balances and alerts in Bahasa Melayu, English, and Mandarin. This is on top of the automotive grade e-SIM that is included – packaged with a range of other services like a built-in GPS for tracking and geo-tagging – as well as built-in sensors and monitoring system to offer increased security for your vehicle.

Zurich’s products and services, meanwhile, will be made accessible from within the Loka App, where Lokatag users can search for and purchase car insurance and takaful plans. “We are glad to be partnering up with Zurich Malaysia to enhance and automate motor insurance and takaful claims processes, and at the same time, introduce more personalised telematics insurance for all Loka App users,” said the group chief executive officer of Amtel, Chester Koid.

Meanwhile, the chief executive officer of Zurich General Takaful Malaysia, Shamsul Azman said that Zurich is constantly exploring ways to add value for its customers through strategic collaboration. “We are proud to partner with Lokatag in enhancing road safety, convenience, and peace of mind for users. We look forward to working together with Lokatag and reinforcing our commitment to care for what truly matters for our customers,” he added.

At present, Lokatag has yet to reveal Zurich’s exact offerings on its app, stating that it’ll be “coming soon”. Meanwhile, the Lokatag Pro device itself is retailing at RM1,799, and is already available for pre-order for delivery in March 2024. There is also an introductory offer where those who pre-order will receive a free car insurance for every purchase of the device.
