The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has released its Household Income & Basic Amenities Survey Report 2019, which contains updated income figures for the nation’s B40, M40, and T20 household groups. Overall, the income threshold for the household groups have shifted higher in 2019 when compared to 2016, which was when the last Household Income Survey was conducted by DOSM.

According to the report, the income range in 2019 for the different household groups are as follows: less than RM4,850 for the B40 group, between RM4,850 and RM10,959 for the M40 group, and RM10,960 and above for T20. The median household income for each of these groups are pinned at RM3,166, RM7,093, and RM15,021 respectively. You can compare these 2019 figures to the data from 2016 in the tables below.

Besides the income threshold and median incomes for each household group, the survey by DOSM also revealed the mean income, number of households, and percentage of total household income across the B40, M40, and T20 groups. For the percentage of household income each group holds out of the total household income in the country, it was found that the B40 group decreased in percentage by 0.4%, the M40 group decreased by 0.2%, and the T20 group increased by 0.4%.
