Transport Minister Anthony Loke has said that Malaysian motorists will be able to renew their driving licence and road tax online via the MyJPJ app, starting from 1 February 2024. There will also be a rebate of RM5 for those who opt to renew their driving licences digitally, to be provided from 1 February to 31 December 2024.
According to Loke, the new function is aimed at providing better convenience for the public, allowing them to skip the queue at road transport department (JPJ) counters and save time. He also noted that the online renewal facility will be rolled out in phases, and will be enabled only for Malaysians for now.
“To encourage the use of online renewals, the government will provide a RM5 rebate to anyone renewing their driving licence digitally. This rebate will be enjoyed throughout this year, starting from 1 February until 31 December 2024,” Loke said, adding that members of the public can share their e-driving licence and road tax with family or friends, or other individuals that are allowed by the user via the new function.

For context, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) has been gradually digitising its services and various documents since the past year, with local private vehicle owners and drivers no longer being required to display physical copies of their road tax on their windscreen. Instead, they can show a digital copy when requested by authorities. This is also applicable to selected driving licences.
Aside from this announcement, Loke also shared that to date, only 7.5 million Malaysians are utilising myJPJ app for their needs. Revealed in a survey by JPJ, he also expressed hope that more Malaysians will be able to adopt the new digital options and services that are now provided. “The government is hopeful that through the efforts of the Transport Ministry and RTD, we are able to work towards the full support for a digitised system for the public,” he said.
