To catalyse rakyat-centric economic growth amidst the Covid-19 environment, the government will be carrying out immediate measures to boost local consumption under the Economic Stimulus Package 2020. Under this initiative, Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) recipients will receive an additional RM100 in their bank accounts and an extra RM50 in the form of e-Tunai.

In the month of May 2020, BSH recipients can look forward to an additional RM100 paid directly into their bank accounts in an effort to encourage local consumption. Meanwhile, the original payment of RM200 for all BSH recipients that has been pre-scheduled for May will be brought ahead and paid out two months earlier in March 2020 instead.

In addition to the extra RM100 payout in May, an additional amount of RM50 will be channelled to all BSH recipients in the form of e-Tunai – presumably through Touch ’n Go, Boost, or GrabPay as with the pilot e-Tunai Rakyat programme.

According to the government, Malaysian businesses, especially exporters, have been affected by supply chain disruptions involving factories and ports in China. As such, the above initiatives are meant to boost local consumption growth to soften the blow of negative external factors while protecting local Malaysian jobs.
