Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that a cash aid of RM150 will be provided for all school children in January 2023, regardless of their families’ income bracket. This is to enable them to purchase adequate school equipment for the coming school year.
“With an entire generation missing out on their education following the recent Covid-19 pandemic crisis, it is important to prepare children with appropriate school equipment. In addition to the expenditure requirements for the Supplementary Food Programme (RTM) and the purchase of textbooks, the government has agreed to channel RM150 to all school children regardless of the parents’ income limit in January 2023,” said the prime minister.
The aid will be provided under the recently approved Mini Budget 2023 – also referred to as the Consolidated Fund (Expenditure on Account) Act 2022 – which caters to various essential expenditures by the government until the actual Budget 2023 can be re-tabled in February next year. It has an allocation of RM107.72 billion.

Aside from the RM150 cash aid for students, Datuk Seri Anwar also said that the government will continue with several direct cash aid programmes for the people that were implemented by previous administrations. These include a provision of RM300 for households and RM100 for single individuals – with the payment for Phase 1 set to begin earlier in January 2023 instead of March.
“I hope the early disbursement will help alleviate the burden currently faced by the people,” said Datuk Seri Anwar, adding that social welfare assistance will also be provided to poor households, the elderly, and the disabled – among other aids for the people.
