Motorists travelling along the Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT Expressway) and Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong (LDP) will now be able to use their credit and debit cards to pay for their toll fares. This comes as both highways – both of which are owned by Litrak – begin testing their implementation of the open payment system.
The test lanes that allow credit and debit card payments will be indicated with a clear signage, and motorists who go through these lanes can tap their debit cards, as well as Visa and Mastercard credit cards against a designated card terminal to pay their fees. As with the typical card terminal, the screen will also display the toll fee that you need to pay and your payment status.
The SPRINT Expressway and LDP are both the second highways to test the open payment system. Earlier this month, Maju Expressway (MEX) became the first to do so, with its Putrajaya Toll Plaza enabled to accept credit and debit card payments at six selected toll booths. MEX further said that it will eventually enable these payment options at its other toll plazas as well, namely the Salak Selatan Toll Plaza and Seri Kembangan Toll Plaza.
As has been reported before, the Works Ministry aims to eventually implement the open payment system – which supports credit and debit card payments, in addition to the usual Touch ‘n Go (TNG) payment options – at a total of 12 highways by September 2023. Other highways that are also set to trial the system soon include the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE), Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), and New Pantai Expressway (NPE).
The full implementation of the open payment system on all 12 highways will ultimately involve 31 toll plazas and 81 lanes in total.
