As Malaysia gets ready to celebrate 69 years of independence, brands across the country are marking Merdeka with promotions of their own. From RM6.90 meals and coffee deals to discounts on electronics, fashion and more, there are plenty of ways to join in the celebrations.

We’ve rounded up the Merdeka promotions happening right now, covering everything from your next makan session and coffee run to shopping for the home.

Food Deals

From local favourites and quick bites to meals with the family, there are plenty of promotions to dig into.

• The Chicken Rice Shop: The Combo Local Lah gets you crispy roast chicken rice, a local side and a 12oz drink for RM16.90, running until 20 September.
• Madam Kwan’s: The Merdeka Platter For 2 (rendang, satay, curry, sambal) goes for RM65.80++ from 3 August onwards, with two free Coca-Cola Rasa Asli drinks included, while stocks last.
• emart24: 31% off Korean food and drinks from 12 to 31 August, both in-store and through the app.
• Krispy Kreme: The Malaysiana Combo comes with a free MILO tote bag this Merdeka. Check the outlet page for exact dates and stock.
• Burger King: A limited-time MILO Malty Dinosaur menu item for Merdeka, running through August.
• McDonald’s: The Kon Gemilang sundae is back with a sweet corn flavour, with an option to add a chocolate top.
• Pizza Hut: A second pizza for 69 sen, from 25 August to 2 September. They’re also running Pizza Kari Laksa and Pizza Durian Brûlée for a limited time under a separate local-flavour lineup.
• Carl’s Jr.: Two Angus Burgers plus fries and drinks for RM69, through August.
• Marrybrown: Order a regular-priced Nasi Lemak MB combo and the second combo (choose from Nasi Lemak MB, Nasi Kandar, Nasi Ayam MB, Bubur Ayam MB or Bubur Pedas) costs RM6.90, from 17 August to 17 September.
• Dunkin’: The Rasa Malaysia collection is back with Kopi Susu, Onde-Onde and Butter Kaya doughnuts, paired with 3 Layer Tea and White Coffee, running until 13 September.
• FamilyMart: Buy 1 Free 1 large coffee through FamiDeals for MY FamilyMart members, 25 to 28 August, plus a separate deal running to 22 September where a RM15 spend gets you a shot at a free OATSIDE blind box.
• IKEA: The Swedish Restaurant is doing a National Day menu with Nasi Lemak Basmati sets from RM13.90, from 4 August to 30 September.

Drinks and Coffee

Need a coffee break? Several chains are brewing Malaysian-inspired flavours and discounted favourites.

• Starbucks: Selected Grande drinks (Asian Dolce Latte, Kopi Kaw Latte, Ais Kepal Frappuccino) are RM9.90 every Wednesday through August, in-store only.
• Gigi Coffee: 31% off all eligible drinks from 15 August to 1 September, walk-in or through the app.
• BEUTEA: White Peach Oolong Milk Tea and Jasmine Green Milk Tea are RM6.90 each for the whole of August, ordered through the Beutea app.
• Luckin Coffee: Two new Gula Melaka-based drinks under the “Rasa Kita, Cerita Kita” Merdeka special, from 14 August. No fixed end date announced.
• ZUS Coffee x Mamee Monster: A Blue Ocean Soda-themed drink lineup made with blue spirulina and berry flavours.
• Gong cha: 69% off a second Winter Melon drink under the NikmaTea Kemerdekaan promo, through August and September.

Convenience Stores And Groceries

Merdeka promotions are also making their way into convenience stores and supermarkets, with savings on snacks and everyday essentials.

• Lotus’s: Their “Merdeka Lesgo Lokal” campaign is running alongside the usual Banyak Murah catalogue, which changes every two weeks, with a “Troli Penuh Merdeka” contest for shoppers on top of the regular grocery discounts.
• MINISO: Buy 1 Free 1 on selected iMeilly press-on nails, plus 31% off FIFA, Coca-Cola and The Legend of Hei collectibles, from 5 to 31 August.
• 99 Speedmart: Groceries from RM1.59, tied to their 69th Merdeka and 39th anniversary sale, running until 17 September.
• The Store: Merdeka Super Deals catalogue with up to 80% off selected items, 20 August to 9 September.

Tech And Big-Ticket Buys

If a new phone or home appliance is on your shopping list, there are discounts and rebates to look out for!

• DirectD: Up to RM1,100 off selected Samsung Galaxy devices, spanning 69 smartphone models, running from 3 August to 1 September.
• BEST DENKI: Up to RM2,500 in Touch ‘n Go eWallet rebates plus 0% easy payment, until 31 August at their MyTOWN outlet.
• AEON: Their Merdeka Month Sale covers electronics, fashion and home essentials nationwide, from 30 July to 31 August.
• Harvey Norman: Two Merdeka campaigns running at once, the Merdeka Super Sale (Top 50 deals, up to RM3,500 instant rebates plus RM2,000 in Touch ‘n Go eWallet credits, 30 July to 2 September) and the Factory Direct Merdeka Sale at CITTA Mall, Ampang Point, and Paradigm Mall JB (up to 80% off, 3 August to 2 September).

Making Your Merdeka Ringgit Count

Whether you’re heading out for a meal with family or doing a little shopping, a bit of planning can help stretch your ringgit. Just remember to check the dates and fine print of the promotions you want, especially for offers that are app-only, dine-in only, or limited to certain outlets.

Also, check if you can stack some deals with your usual cashback card or e-wallet. Just don’t let a big discount tempt you into spending more than you planned. A discount only saves you money if you were already planning to buy the item.
