As e-commerce continues to grow in Malaysia, Samsung is evolving its device strategy to tap into this huge market. The Galaxy M20 is the first Samsung smartphone to be an online-exclusive device, in partnership with Shopee.

The Samsung Galaxy M20 follows the trend started by Chinese smartphone makers that sell devices on a “high specs, low price” basis. By selling the Galaxy M20 exclusively online, Samsung can keep costs down and sell it at a lower price.

“There is a shift in retail paradigm and consumers are shopping online now more than ever before. Taking this into consideration, we decided to go fully-digital in our sales approach for the new Galaxy M series,” said Yoonsoo Kim, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

At RM799, the Samsung Galaxy M offers plenty of value compared to previous Samsung devices at that price point. Its outstanding feature is a massive 5,000mAh battery – the first on a Samsung smartphone, and even larger than that on the Galaxy Note 9 (at “just” 4,000mAh). The Galaxy M20 also has USB-C fast charging, and a power management feature built into the device for lower power consumption.

Other notable hardware specs include an Exynos 7904 octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM, a huge 6.3-inch FHD+ “Infinity-V” teardrop notch display, and 64GB of internal storage (expandable with microSD cards). As for the cameras, there’s a dual rear camera comprising of a 13MP f/1.9 main sensor and a 5MP f/2.2 120-degree ultra-wide angle sensor. The front camera is a 8MP sensor embedded in the notch.

Samsung is working with Shopee Malaysia to offer the Galaxy M20 exclusively on the e-commerce platform. Shopee will be holding a “Samsung Brand Day” on 20 March, where the Galaxy M20 will be available for sale starting 9am for both colours: Charcoal Black and Ocean Blue.

The first 2,000 buyers will receive a Logitech X50 Bluetooth speaker and a JBL T450 worth a combined RM227, while the next 2,000 buyers will receive the Logitech X50 speakers only. On top of that, Shopee will also offer a voucher for an additional RM100 off any product sold in the Samsung Official Store on Shopee – but this voucher is limited to the first 100 buyers only.
