42 Malaysia, the country’s first tuition-free computer science school under the Sunway Group, has announced a strategic partnership with AmBank Group to expand access to tech education and strengthen Malaysia’s digital talent pipeline. AmBank Group has committed RM3 million over the next three years to support 42 Malaysia’s mission of producing industry-ready digital professionals.
This collaboration between industry and academia aims to ensure that students not only gain technical expertise but also have direct pathways to employment. AmBank will play an active role in bridging the gap between education and industry by offering career opportunities and involving students in industry-relevant projects. In addition, 42 Malaysia will serve as a research and development hub, providing students with opportunities to work on real-world challenges through hackathons and innovation workshops, allowing them to gain invaluable hands-on experience.
AmBank Group Chief Executive Officer, Jamie Ling, expressed the bank’s pride in supporting 42 Malaysia and highlighted the importance of equipping individuals from diverse backgrounds with essential digital skills. He emphasised AmBank’s ongoing transformation through technology and data analytics, reinforcing the need for a workforce that is proficient in digital competencies and capable of applying these skills to drive innovation and problem-solving.

Jeff Sandhu, Chief Executive Officer of 42 Malaysia, commended AmBank for its forward-thinking approach and commitment to expanding opportunities for aspiring tech talents across the country. He emphasised that quality education and talent development are essential drivers of Malaysia’s digital growth and innovation. As 42 Malaysia progresses towards its goal of developing 10,000 tech talents, he encouraged more industry players to collaborate in shaping the future of tech education in Malaysia.
Since its launch as 42 Kuala Lumpur in 2020, 42 Malaysia has provided over 1,200 students with the opportunity to upskill and transition into tech careers. The network has since expanded to key regions across Malaysia, including Iskandar Puteri in Johor and Penang, with plans to establish campuses in the Borneo States in the near future.
Sunway Group, through its education division, has invested RM10 million to establish and expand the 42 network in Malaysia, reinforcing its commitment to making world-class computer science education accessible to as many individuals as possible. This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s ambition to position itself as a regional leader in the digital economy by developing a highly skilled workforce equipped for the demands of the future.
