Maybank Mastercard Cardholders Can Spend For A Chance To Win A Mercedes-Benz CLA
Author Avatar

Maybank is running a spend-and-win campaign for Mastercard credit cardholders, with prizes that include a Mercedes-Benz CLA and Trip.com vouchers.

The campaign runs from 1 April to 31 July 2026 and is open to new and existing principal cardholders with eligible Maybank Mastercard credit cards, as long as they register first.

Registration Comes Before Any Spending Counts

Taking part in the campaign requires a one-time SMS registration using the keyword “CLA” sent to 66628 from the mobile number already registered with Maybank.

Only principal Mastercard credit cardholders are eligible, which means debit cards, prepaid cards, and supplementary cards do not qualify on their own for the campaign, even though supplementary card spending can still be counted under the principal cardholder’s account.

The RM1,000 Requirement Is Monthly And Cumulative

After registering, cardholders need to spend at least RM1,000 in total each month to start earning entries for that month’s draw.

This is important because the campaign works on a month-by-month basis rather than one running total across the full campaign period. A cardholder who spends RM1,000 in April qualifies for April’s entries, but would still need to hit the same threshold again in May, June, or July to keep earning entries in those months.

Local And Overseas Spend Do Not Earn The Same Number Of Entries

Once the RM1,000 monthly spend threshold is met, entries are awarded based on individual transactions.

Every local transaction of at least RM100 earns one entry, while every overseas transaction of at least RM100 earns two entries. Newly approved principal cardholders also receive a one-time bonus of 10 entries.

This means the campaign rewards not only how much you spend, but also where that spending takes place. Someone using the card more often overseas could accumulate entries faster than someone spending the same amount locally.

Not Every Type Of Spending Counts

The spending categories are wider than just retail shopping, as eligible spend includes local and overseas retail purchases, online transactions, AutoPay bills, auto-reload for Maybank Touch ’n Go Zing cards, and 0% EzyPay or EzyPay-i instalment plans based on the full transaction amount.

At the same time, there are several exclusions. E-wallet reloads, government payments, charity payments, cash advances, balance transfers, fund transfers, fees, refunded transactions, and transactions Maybank considers suspicious or business-related are not counted. Split or repetitive transactions of five times or more in a day with the same merchant are also disallowed.

The Main Prize Is A Mercedes-Benz CLA

The headline draw is a Mercedes-Benz CLA, with one winner selected for each campaign month, which means there will be four winners in total across the campaign.

There is also a monthly bonus prize in the form of RM500 Trip.com vouchers, with 90 winners per campaign month and 360 winners overall. Each eligible cardholder can win a maximum of one monthly grand prize or one monthly bonus prize during the full campaign period.

More Entries Help, But They Do Not Guarantee A Win

Winners are selected through a random draw based on the number of qualifying entries earned.

Spending more can improve your chances by increasing your pool of entries, but the campaign still comes down to a draw rather than a guaranteed reward. It is closer to a lottery-style mechanic built around card usage than a cashback campaign where spending automatically leads to a benefit.

Winning The Car Still Comes With Extra Costs

The Mercedes-Benz CLA may be the headline prize, but the winner still needs to bear several costs linked to taking ownership of the car.

According to the campaign terms, winners are responsible for registration fees, road tax, insurance or takaful coverage, and other related miscellaneous costs. Maybank only covers the purchase price paid to the distributor.

Winning the car therefore does not make ownership entirely cost-free, which is something potential participants should keep in mind when looking at the campaign.

Where People Are Most Likely To Slip Up

The campaign sounds simple at first, but the biggest risk is assuming that all card spending automatically counts once you register.

A missed SMS registration means none of the spending is eligible, while falling short of RM1,000 in any one month means there are no entries for that month at all. Even after crossing the threshold, certain transactions such as e-wallet reloads, government payments, or repeated split purchases may still be excluded, which can leave a cardholder with fewer valid entries than expected.

For cardholders who already use a Maybank Mastercard regularly, the campaign may be an added bonus on top of existing spending. For everyone else, it makes more sense to see it as a prize draw attached to card usage, rather than spend with the expectation of a guaranteed return.
