RHB Bank has alerted its customers that they may experience some temporary difficulties in receiving their One-Time Password (OTP), which is required to complete their online transactions. This is due to a telco system intermittent network disruption, the bank shared via its social media this morning.
“Dear valued customer, we regret to inform that we are experiencing a telco system intermittent network disruption. Customers may experience difficulty to receive ‘One Time Password’ (OTP) to perform online transactions on RHB Internet Banking and RHB Mobile Banking. The network service provider is currently rectifying this issue soonest possible,” said the bank, adding that it apologises for the inconvenience caused and that it will update once the system is rectified.
RHB did not share if this issue affects all telcos or just a specific telco, but given this update, it may be a good idea for RHB customers to hold off on carrying out online banking transactions for now – unless the payments are urgent. Alternatively, they could visit the nearest RHB bank branches for immediate assistance.
OTPs – also known as one-time PIN or one-time authorisation code – are a common security layer adopted by banks to verify online transactions. Valid only for one login session or transaction, the six-digit OTPs are sent to customers via SMSes, which they must then key in to confirm and complete an online transaction that they are performing.
