RHB's New Sound Box Plus Takes QR And Card Payments
Author Avatar

RHB Banking Group has launched the Sound Box Plus, a payment device that lets businesses accept DuitNow QR, debit card and credit card payments from a single device.

The device also gives merchants a voice confirmation after each successful payment, telling them exactly how much was received. This can make it easier to keep track of payments when things get busy and help reduce the risk of fraudulent payment claims.

The Sound Box Plus can generate a unique DuitNow QR code for each transaction using its built-in keypad. Customers can then scan the code to pay through DuitNow QR or tap an eligible contactless card on the device.

Its Near Field Communication (NFC) function supports Mastercard, Visa and MyDebit card payments of up to RM250, including payments from local and overseas customers.

DuitNow QR transactions remain subject to the customer’s individual online banking limits.

The device also comes with built-in SIM connectivity, so merchants can accept payments without relying on a separate connection.

RHB said the Sound Box Plus is particularly suited to merchants with card transaction sizes below RM250. It also removes the need for printed receipts, supporting businesses that want to handle payments digitally.

The launch builds on RHB’s earlier Static and Dynamic DuitNow QR Sound Box solutions, as the bank expands its payment tools for small and medium-sized enterprises.
