Public Bank cardmembers can use their accumulated reward points to offset annual fees and the RM25 card service tax on selected credit cards. The redemption option is currently available and runs until 31 December 2026.
The redemption programme is already in force and applies to eligible Public Bank credit cards that are active and in good standing.
Under this option, cardmembers may redeem their Air Miles, VIP Points, or Green Points to cover either the annual fee, the card service tax, or both, depending on the card type.
Points can only be used once they have been credited into the cardmember’s statement. Redemption requests must be submitted by the principal cardholder and cannot be reversed once processed.
The redemption option applies to a range of Public Bank credit cards, including PB Visa Signature, PB Platinum Mastercard, PB Quantum Visa, PB Quantum Mastercard, PB World Mastercard, and PB Visa Infinite.
Both principal and supplementary cardholders are eligible, although the number of points required varies by card type and cardholder category.
Higher-tier cards such as PB Visa Signature and PB Platinum Mastercard require a larger number of points to waive the annual fee. Supplementary cards generally require fewer points compared with principal cards.
The exact number of points needed depends on the specific card held and whether the cardholder is a principal or supplementary cardmember.
Cardmembers may also use points to offset the RM25 card service tax charged annually on credit cards in Malaysia.
For most eligible cards, 12,500 points are required to redeem the card service tax. This applies across multiple card tiers, including PB Quantum, PB World Mastercard, and PB Visa Infinite.
Redemption requests will only be processed if the card account is active and has sufficient points at the time the request is received. Requests with insufficient points will not be processed.
Once a redemption is accepted by the bank, it cannot be cancelled or reversed. Cardmembers should ensure they have enough points before submitting a request.
For cardmembers who regularly accumulate reward points, using points to offset annual fees and card service tax can help reduce the ongoing cost of holding a credit card.
This option may be more relevant for long-term cardholders who do not fully offset fees through spending-based waivers but have accumulated points that might otherwise expire or go unused.
