Budget 2023: PTPTN Repayment Discounts Return, New Deferment Option Introduced
Author Avatar

In his Budget 2023 presentation, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reintroduced the PTPTN repayment discounts, and the government is set to announce a new repayment deferment programme for borrowers on lower incomes.

The popular PTPTN repayment discount was announced in the previous Budget 2023 proposal by the previous Finance Minister, offering discounts of up to 20% of varying types of bulk payments. During his speech today, Datuk Seri Anwar did not give specific details on the discount conditions, but did mention that it will be available for three months starting from 1 March 2023.

On a related note, Datuk Seri Anwar also announced a new repayment deferment programme for low-income PTPTN borrowers. He stated that borrowers who are earning below RM1,800 a month may apply for a six-month deferment of repayment, and that applications will be open from 1 March 2023 as well.
