PTPTN borrowers earning up to RM2,500 a month will have their loan repayments postponed in 2027, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced while presenting Budget 2027 today.

Borrowers earning between RM2,501 and RM3,000 a month will only need to pay a minimum repayment of RM50 a month. Both measures are expected to benefit more than 400,000 PTPTN borrowers.

Meanwhile, borrowers with no missed or late payments who make regular repayments will be given a 10% discount.

The government also agreed to give tax deductions to employers who repay PTPTN loans for their employees. This incentive covers repayments made from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2028.

Anwar described PTPTN as a an important source of help for young Malaysians who want to further their studies at university.

The Ministry of Higher Education will receive RM19.1 billion under Budget 2027, including RM800 million to upgrade infrastructure such as lecture halls and student accommodation.
