AmBank has launched the UnionPay 15% Cashback campaign, which gives its UnionPay cardholders a 15% rebate when they spend a minimum of RM30 in a single transaction at selected merchants on Fridays and the weekends.

Starting from today until 28 February 2021, AmBank UnionPay Platinum credit cardholders can earn 15% cashback every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday when they make purchases from the following merchants:

• Family Mart
• Jaya Grocer
• Village Grocer
• KFC
• McDonald’s
• Starbucks
• Hermo
• PrestoMall
• Zara (online only)

Note that the cashback is capped at RM50 per person each month, which means that you will need to spend about RM333 every month to earn the maximum cashback reward. Also, the bank has allocated a daily total of RM3,000 for the campaign, which will be distributed to cardholders on a first-come, first-served basis.

The cashback that you’ve earned will be credited into your account within 12 weeks of the end of each campaign month. It will be reflected in your monthly statement.

In addition to the 15% cashback earned through the campaign, you can also tap into your card’s features for a small bonus of 0.5x AmBonus Points for every RM1 spent on retail purchases. While it’s not a lot, this is a way for you to maximise the benefits of the card when you can’t make use of its primary feature of 5x AmBonus Points for overseas spend amidst the current restrictions on international travel.

The AmBank UnionPay Platinum is a card that is geared towards an emerging group of Malaysian travellers. However, with the Covid-19 pandemic having brought international travel to an indefinite halt, this campaign is likely a way to encourage its cardholders to continue using the card after its launch in July last year.
