A total of 67 students who excelled in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations received financial rewards of up to RM3,000 each at a ceremony held at SMJK San Min in Teluk Intan on Monday. The total payout for the initiative came to RM125,000.

The event was officiated by Housing and Local Government Minister and Teluk Intan Member of Parliament Nga Kor Ming, who said the initiative was aimed at easing the financial burden on students and their families as they prepare for higher education.

How The Rewards Were Structured

Four students who scored 11As received RM3,000 each, 27 students with 10As received RM2,000 each, and 36 students with 9As received RM1,500 each.

An additional 10 students received RM500 each under a Progress Award, recognising significant improvement in academic performance rather than absolute results.

In a separate ceremony, Nga also distributed RM111,600 to 179 more SPM high achievers. Twelve teachers were also recognised with RM1,200 each for their contributions to student success.

An Initiative Running Since 2023

The programme is a continuing initiative by the DAP Teluk Intan Parliamentary Service Centre, running annually since 2023 to recognise academic excellence among students in the constituency.

Similar reward programmes have been observed across other constituencies, including Bukit Assek in Sarawak, Pasir Pinji in Perak, Putatan in Sabah, and Ayer Hitam in Johor. For SPM students who reside in these areas, or in other parliamentary constituencies, you may want to check with your local MP service centre to find out if a similar reward is available.
