Lazada Also Collaborates With The Government To Offer RM200 Rebate On Energy-Efficient Appliances
Author Avatar

E-commerce platform Lazada has revealed its participation in the SAVE 2.0 programme, a government initiative that aims to increase public awareness and the number of energy-efficient products in the market. The programme does this by providing RM200 vouchers for Malaysians to use on selected products that contribute to its objectives.

In conjunction with its participation, Lazada is now accepting registrations of interest from customers who wish to apply for the rebate. Read on to find out more about the SAVE 2.0 programme, as well as how you can obtain your rebate voucher via Lazada.

SAVE 2.0: The Basics

To briefly explain, SAVE 2.0 is a programme that offers RM200 e-rebates to domestic households that purchase energy-efficient air conditioners or refrigerators. First announced during the tabling of Budget 2021, the programme is an initiative carried out by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) in collaboration with participating e-commerce platforms.

What constitutes energy-efficient appliances, though? Essentially, SAVE 2.0 defines them as electrical appliances that have a 4- or 5-star rating by the Energy Commission. Even more specifically, SAVE 2.0 said that its e-rebates can only be used for the purchases of air conditioners and refrigerators that are labelled as 4- or 5-star “Cekap Tenaga” in the year of 2021.

To be eligible for SAVE 2.0, you must – first and foremost – be a Malaysian citizen. In addition to that, you need to also have a registered account with domestic utility companies, such as Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), or Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB). Each registered account can only claim one RM200 e-rebate, which is provided on a first-come first-served basis.

Also, the overall quota for the e-rebates will be divided between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia to ensure that the number of consumers in urban and rural areas are balanced out.

How to apply via Lazada

To be clear, Lazada has not officially opened up applications for the SAVE 2.0 programme yet. Instead, this round of sign-up is a registration of interest to indicate that you’d like to be informed when the e-commerce platform rolls out the actual registration for SAVE 2.0 in the future. To register your interest, you will only need to provide your full name (as per your MyKad) and your email address.

While Lazada has yet to share exact specifics regarding the upcoming application procedure, the e-commerce platform does say that it will take 14 days to process and inform you of the status of your application. In addition to that, the e-rebate voucher that you get via the SAVE 2.0 programme will only be applicable to the products that you can find on Lazada’s SAVE 2.0 campaign page.

In other words, you will only be able to purchase from specific brands and merchant partners, including Daikin, Panasonic, LG, Toshiba, and Hitachi. As such, it may be a good idea for you to first browse through the selection of products that are available before you decide to register with Lazada.

Aside from Lazada, Shopee is another e-commerce platform that has partnered with SEDA Malaysia to kickstart its own SAVE 2.0 programme earlier this year. In the case of Shopee, users were already able to officially apply for the rebate since the start of January 2021 – done by registering their personal details and electric utility account. This can be conducted via Shopee’s announcement page or a simple form in its app.
