AIA Malaysia has launched Mental Health Solution, a new offering that enables employers to provide end-to-end mental health support for their employees. Offered in collaboration with digital mental health platform ThoughtFull, it is said to be the first of such solutions made available in Malaysia.

According to AIA, Mental Health Solution is provided under its Total Corporate Solution, an umbrella programme that provides a range of protection and benefits for employers to cover their workers’ needs. Mental Health Solution, specifically, allows insured employees to gain digital access to mental wellness coaching and resources, as well as obtain mental health coverage.

The services and coverage offered under Mental Health Solution are as follows:

1. Digital access to mental wellness resources (through ThoughtFull app)

  • Unlimited one-on-one access to certified mental wellness coaches for daily coaching
  • Self-guided learning content and wellness tracker
  • Mental wellness programmes, webinars, and workshops
  • 24/7 wellness hotline for crisis interventions

2. Mental health coverage

  • Covers consultations, medication, and treatments provided by psychiatrists or physicians for mental health conditions
  • Covers employees’ dependents
  • Offers cashless and reimbursement options

“We’re seeing more and more members of the workforce struggle with mental wellness, which has been exacerbated by the [Covid-19] pandemic. It is detrimental not only to the individual’s emotional wellbeing, but also to the nation’s productivity,” said the chief corporate solutions officer of AIA Bhd, Tung Hsiao Ley, adding that organisations will have to step up their efforts in addressing mental health issues among their employees.

AIA also cited data from its AIA Vitality survey carried out in 2019 (Malaysia’s Healthiest Workplace), which reported that the Malaysian workforce was increasingly sleep deprived and overworked. In fact, 51% of the respondents said that they were suffering from at least one dimension of work-related stress, while 53% was getting less than seven hours of sleep per day.

“With the launch of our comprehensive Mental Health Solution, we [AIA] believe that we have achieved a breakthrough in responding to a market need that is very real,” Tung further noted. She also said that Mental Health Solution will help support employers as they provide better care for their staff, thereby improving employees’ quality of life and resulting in a healthier and more productive workforce.
