Hong Leong Assurance (HLA) has rolled out Covid-19 Cover, its first-ever group policy for pandemic coverage, which is designed for F&B business owners to offer Covid-19 coverage to customers who visit their outlets.

Should an F&B business decide to purchase the Covid-19 Cover plan, its customers will be eligible to tap into the following benefits if they are diagnosed and hospitalised with Covid-19 (Category 3, 4, and 5):

  • Hospitalisation benefit of RM50 per day for each person (up to 30 days)
  • Compassionate benefit of RM3,500 per life in the event of death due to Covid-19, within 90 days of diagnosis during the coverage period

Meanwhile, on the part of the customers, they will need to spend a minimum of RM40 (excluding sales and services tax (SST) and service charge) and scan the merchant QR code to complete a coverage registration within the hour. This will qualify them for protection of up to 14 days, starting from the next working day after successful registration. The customers will also receive an assurance certificate via email to inform them of the approval.

Customers can also extend this coverage if they wish to, by spending the minimum amount at any participating outlets before their coverage period expires. Every multiple of RM40 spent in a single bill will entitle an additional individual for the Covid-19 Cover insurance.

Do note, however, that this plan will only cover customers aged between 16 to 70 years old, and is valid for Malaysians only.

In its statement, HLA commented that the product was launched because it recognised the need to alleviate the Malaysian public’s worries even as more businesses prepare to reopen their doors to customers. “We believe this coverage will provide peace of mind to customers who wish to dine in or takeaway at their favourite outlets, while creating a much-needed boost to local F&B businesses,” it said.
