Malaysia Airlines will retime selected flights arriving at and departing from KLIA Terminal 1, following temporary airspace closures announced by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia for National Day rehearsals and the National Day Flypast 2026.
The Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area will be closed from 11am to noon on 26, 27 and 28 August for rehearsals. A full rehearsal will close the airspace from 8.45am to 9.45am on 29 August, followed by the same window on 31 August for the Flypast itself.
Scheduled take-offs and landings at KLIA will be temporarily suspended during these periods.
Malaysia Airlines will notify affected passengers using their registered contact details, so it’s worth checking your flight status on the airline’s website or app before heading to the airport.
Since the closures overlap with the school holiday and peak travel period from 26 August to 6 September, passengers departing from KLIA Terminal 1 are advised to arrive at least four hours before their scheduled departure time.
If your flight has been retimed, base your airport arrival plans on the new departure time you’re notified of, not your original booking. Check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure for both domestic and international flights, while boarding gates close 30 minutes before departure.
Malaysia Airlines said waiting times at check-in, immigration and security could exceed 45 minutes due to the expected high volume of travellers. If you’re flying internationally, make sure to confirm your entry and exit requirements through the Immigration Department’s official channels before you travel.
