UPDATE: Prudential Malaysia has extended the special Covid-19 coverage from 29 February to 30 April 2020. The benefit will also be expanded to cover group policies (except group employee benefits). This article has been amended to reflect the update accordingly.

Prudential Malaysia is offering a lump-sum payout of RM5,000 to Prudential policyholders who have been diagnosed with Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), commonly known as the Wuhan coronavirus. This payout is in addition to existing benefits offered by Prudential’s medical insurance policies or certificates.

The payout will be given to eligible Prudential customers who have been diagnosed with coronavirus during the months of February to April 2020 at one of the 26 official referral hospitals for coronavirus cases.

All in-force individual policies, certificate lives assured, and persons covered under Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad and/or Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad will be eligible for this coverage. Prudential has also expanded this benefit to include group policies and certificates, but not group employer-employee benefits. The maximum payout is RM5,000 per life.

Even better, there is no additional cost for the special coverage, nor is there any registration required. According to Prudential, there are no exclusions or waiting periods for the special coverage; once the complete documents for a claim have been submitted, you will receive the payment within 14 working days. This Special Novel Coronavirus Coverage is offered at no extra cost on top of the existing benefits in Prudential policies or certificates.

“Our WE DO spirit means that we’re always committed to providing the best for our customers,” said Prudential. “That’s why we’re offering a Special Novel Coronoavirus Coverage with a lump-sum payout of RM5,000 to Prudential customers diagnosed with Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) by any of the hospitals identified by the Ministry of Health.”

Earlier last week, Prudential confirmed that it would indeed extend medical coverage to its customers for admission in relation to the coronavirus. Later, the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) and the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) announced that all member insurers in the country will be covering Wuhan virus treatment in their medical insurance policies.
